Purpose: To present a case of symptomatic optic nerve sheath calcification and highlight clues and pitfalls for the final diagnosis: bilateral optic nerve sheath meningioma.
Observations: A 48-year-old man presented with painless vision loss in his left eye and findings consistent with left optic nerve atrophy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) displayed thinning of the left optic nerve without contrast-enhancement or evidence of compressive lesions.
Background: A possible benefit of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the approach to tumors involving the optic chiasm may be the ability to foresee visual deterioration. This study investigated the value of OCT in watchful waiting for compressive optic neuropathy as the primary management of suprasellar masses.
Methods: The research was conducted as a 2-year observational study of a patient cohort with conservatively managed mass lesions involving the optic chiasm on MRI.
Objective Cushing's syndrome is associated with long-term cognitive deficits and affective symptoms such as depression and anxiety. The alterations in brain function underlying these deficits after Cushing's syndrome are unclear and therefore we aimed to explore alterations in resting-state functional connectivity in patients with Cushing's syndrome in remission. Design Cross-sectional case-control study.

Methods And Analysis: Cross-sectional study of patients with suprasellar tumours affecting the optic chiasm. Macular optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans were evaluated for nasal GCC sector thinning and loss of normal GCC asymmetry between corresponding nasal-temporal sectors.
Pituitary adenomas (PAs) are common, comprising approximately one third of all intracranial tumors. Non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPAs) are the most common PAs. Although usually benign, the NFPAs represent therapeutic challenges because of their location close to the optic chiasm and nerves, and the proximity to the pituitary gland.

The aims of the present study were to evaluate whether the early postoperative S-cortisol level can serve as a prognostic marker for short- and long-term remission, and retrospectively review our own short and long term results after surgery for Cushing's disease.
Methods: This single centre, retrospective study consists of 19 consecutive patients with Cushing's disease who underwent transsphenoidal surgery.
Recent studies have described bone as an endocrine organ regulating glucose metabolism, with insulin signaling regulating osteocalcin secretion and osteocalcin regulating β cell function. We have previously demonstrated increased bone expression of TXNIP in patients with endogenous Cushing's syndrome (CS), and we hypothesized that TXNIP could contribute to the dysregulated glucose metabolism in CS. We studied 33 CS patients and 29 matched controls, with bone biopsies from nine patients, before and after surgical treatment.

The purpose of this study was to explore whether tumor dedifferentiation correlated with glucocorticoid resistance and whether the resistance was associated with both positively and negatively regulated genes. Tumor material from 20 patients with verified Cushing's disease or Nelson's syndrome operated on at Rikshospitalet, Oslo.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the functional role of TXNIP in bone with focus on osteoblast (OB) differentiation and OB-mediated osteoclast activity and function in vitro.
Design And Methods: Nine bone biopsies from CS before and after surgical treatment were screened for expressional candidate genes.
Objectives: Loss of E-cadherin is an important marker of epithelial tumour progression. The aims of this study were to explore whether E-cadherin expression and localization correlate to corticotroph tumour progression, relate the expression of the E-cadherin gene (CDH1) to immunohistochemical E-cadherin staining pattern, and study whether the E-cadherin levels were correlated to methylation status of the CDH1 promoter region.
Design: Immunohistochemical analyses of E-cadherin protein were performed, as was RT-qPCR of the CDH1 and the POMC genes.
Aim: The chronic fatigue syndrome is associated with alterations in the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and cardiovascular autonomic nervous activity, suggesting a central dysregulation. This study explored differences among adolescent chronic fatigue syndrome patients and healthy controls regarding antidiuretic hormone, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system, sex hormones and cardiac peptides.
Methods: We included a consecutive sample of 67 adolescents aged 12-18 years with chronic fatigue syndrome diagnosed according to a thorough and standardized set of investigations, and a volunteer sample of 55 healthy control subjects of equal gender and age distribution.
Background: Untreated endogenous Cushing's syndrome is a serious condition with high morbidity and mortality. New diagnostic procedures make today's assessment more accurate. We describe which tests should be done when there is suspicion of the syndrome.
