The proportion of wild swimmers at non-official bathing sites has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. Bathing water quality at designated sites is monitored through analysis of the concentration of fecal indicator bacteria such as E. coli.

However, the effects of PEEP on end-expiratory transpulmonary pressure (Ptp) during prone positioning require clarification. For this purpose, the effects of three different PEEP titration strategies on Ptp, respiratory mechanics, mechanical power, gas exchange, and hemodynamics were evaluated comparing supine and prone positioning.

Prognostic studies indicate that the number of TKR will further increase constituting growing burden on healthcare systems. There is also substantial regional heterogeneity in TKR rates within and between countries.

Until now there have not been any standardized indication criteria, which might contribute to the large geographical differences in the frequency of TKA. This guideline aims to consent minimal requirements (main criteria), additional important aspects (minor criteria), as well as relative and absolute contraindications for TKA.

A recent analysis (Morgan et al., Drug Discov Today 17(9-10):419-424, 2012) revealed however that insufficient certainty in the integrity of the causal chain of fundamental pharmacological steps from drug dosing through systemic exposure, target tissue exposure, and engagement of molecular target to pharmacological response is still the major driver of failure in phase II of clinical drug development.

The hole-burned spectra are composed of four main features: (i) a narrow zero-phonon hole (ZPH) at the burn wavelength, (ii) a number of vibrational ZPHs, (iii) a broad low-energy hole at ~665 and ~683 nm for chlorophyll b- and chlorophyll a-WSCP, respectively, and (iv) a second satellite hole at ~658 and ~673 nm for chlorophyll b- and chlorophyll a-WSCP, respectively.

However, responses vary among patients and, therefore, we hypothesized that alveolar recruitment is an individual time-dependent process and its measurement might be helpful to 'dose' prone positioning individually. In 13 patients diagnosed with ARDS, EELV (end-expiratory lung volume) was measured in the supine position, immediately after turning to the prone position, at 1, 2, 4 and 8 h in the prone position and after returning to the supine position.

Acceleration and deceleration of the heart rate after the occurrence of a ventricular premature complex is characterized as heart rate turbulence (HRT). Two parameters quantify heart rate turbulence: onset and slope. The physiological properties have not been clarified in a large cohort of persons yet.

We performed a special protocol consisting of five different "pacing" periods: 1) recording of normal sinus rhythm (SR1); 2) atrial pacing with a rate 15% higher than the intrinsic heart rate; 3) ventricular pacing triggered by atrial activation (VAT, with a short AV-delay of 80 ms); 4) AV-sequential pacing with an atrial rate 15% higher than the intrinsic heart rate and a very short AV delay of 80 ms (DDD); 5) normal sinus rhythm (SR2). Only patients with normal AV-nodal conduction or with AV-block I degrees were included.

Therefore we evaluated a non-invasive method for the measurement of PBF in a clinical setting, including 12 patients with acute respiratory failure (acute respiratory distress syndrome) undergoing prone positioning. PBF was determined before (baseline), during and after prone positioning, by using a foreign gas rebreathing method with a new photoacoustic gas analyser.

In 400 consecutively studied patients, Lown classification IVb on Holter monitoring was only associated with arrhythmia morbidity, whereas reduced ejection fraction was related to total and cardiac mortality and arrhythmia morbidity.
