Purpose: The aberrant anterior tibial artery (ATA) runs along the posterior surface of the tibial cortex making it, particularly, at risk during high tibial osteotomy (HTO). This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of the ATA according to global morphotype and its anatomical features in consideration of knee surgery.
Methods: This retrospective study included 1589 knees on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies with long-leg radiographs.
High tibial osteotomy is a widespread treatment option and has been performed in the treatment of osteoarthritis long before joint replacements started their triumphant era in the last third of the last century. However, osteotomies have again gained increased interest and popularity within the last 2 decades. Historically, osteotomies have mainly been recommended for early osteoarthritis and contraindicated for advanced osteoarthritis.

Purpose: To determine the incidence of postoperative infections after ACL reconstruction, to identify the microbiological spectrum, and to evaluate a standardized graft-retaining treatment protocol consisting of sequential arthroscopic irrigation and debridement (I&D) procedures and antibiotic therapy until C-reactive protein levels are within normal range.
Purpose: To determine survivorship and functional results of medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) combined with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and a chondral resurfacing (CR) procedure (abrasion/microfracture) in patients with Kellgren-Lawrence grade 3 and 4 osteoarthritis with full-thickness cartilage defects, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) insufficiency, and varus malalignment.
Methods: From October 2005 to March 2009, all combined HTO (fixation with angular stable internal fixator), ACLR, and CR procedures in knees with symptomatic medial osteoarthritis (Kellgren-Lawrence grade 3 and 4), ACL insufficiency, varus malalignment (>4°), and full-thickness large-area cartilage defects were prospectively surveyed with a minimum follow-up period of 5 years regarding survival (not requiring arthroplasty), functional outcome (subjective International Knee Documentation Committee [IKDC] score), and subjective satisfaction. Clinical evaluation (objective IKDC parameters and KT-1000 [MEDmetric, San Diego, CA] measurement), radiologic evaluation, and revision arthroscopy were performed between 1 and 2 years postoperatively.
Purpose: To determine survivorship and functional results of medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) combined with a chondral resurfacing procedure (abrasion/microfracture) in patients with Kellgren-Lawrence grade 3 and 4 osteoarthritis with full-thickness cartilage defects and varus malalignment.
Methods: From September 2005 to December 2008, all cases of HTO (fixation with an angular-stable internal fixator) combined with a chondral resurfacing procedure performed at our institution were prospectively surveyed, with a minimum follow-up of 5 years, regarding survival (not requiring arthroplasty), functional outcome (subjective International Knee Documentation Committee [IKDC] score), and subjective satisfaction (whether patients would undergo the operation again). Clinical evaluation (according to objective IKDC parameters), radiologic evaluation, and revision arthroscopy for evaluation of regenerated cartilage were performed between 1 and 2 years.
Background: The neurotrophins brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophic factor 3 (NT3) could play a role in addictive behavior. Interactions between BDNF and dopamine transmission influence the alcohol intake. It has been hypothesized that extensive alcohol consumption leads to diminished circulating BDNF levels and impaired BDNF-mediated protective mechanisms.

Objective: Possible associations between serum fatty acid (SFA) profiles, antioxidant status and treatment response were investigated in a trans-sectional study of untreated and treated CHC patients in comparison to a healthy control group.
Methods: SFA composition and antioxidant status were examined in female patients with CHC: 9 were naïve to Interferon-α and ribavirin treatment (IFR), 21 sustained treatment responders, 21 were nonresponders, and 21 were healthy control group members.
Polyunsaturated Fatty acids (PUFAs) seem to be helpful in the therapy of depression. Zinc (Zn) may be one co-factor contributing to their antidepressive effect. Zn acts lipid protective and is a constituent of fatty acid metabolism enzymes.

The aim of this project is to develop an instrument of clinical proxy-ratings for this population.
Methods: Using electronic instruments, physicians and nurses recorded patient behaviour and changes of behaviour over a period of one year.
