We tested the biofilm formation potential of 30 heat-resistant and 6 heat-sensitive dairy isolates. Production of curli and cellulose, static biofilm formation on polystyrene (PS) and stainless steel surfaces, biofilm formation under dynamic conditions (Bioflux), and initial adhesion rates (IAR) were evaluated. Biofilm formation varied greatly between strains, media, and assays.

Here we report the isolation of heat-resistant Escherichia coli from raw milk cheeses. Detection of the heat-resistance markers clpK and orfI by PCR was followed by phenotypical confirmation of increased heat-resistance. These strains were Shiga toxin-negative and, although several were found to be multidrug resistant, no plasmids encoding extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL) were found in any of the isolates.

Neurogenic pulmonary edema (NPE) is caused by a variety of central nervous system lesions and may appear as a subclinical complication. The fulminant form of NPE is always life-threatening. Many pathophysiologic mechanisms have been implicated in the development of NPE, but the exact interaction remains unknown.

The transfusion of rhesus positive (D+) red blood cells to a rhesus negative (D-) person usually induces the development of an irregular anti-D antibody in the recipient. This can lead to a hemolytic reaction in subsequent transfusions, and, in women of childbearing age, can lead to fetal erythroblastosis in any future pregnancy. The recommended interventions to avoid the immunization of the recipient include the administration of intravenous rhesus immune globulin within 72 h after the transfusion.

The transcription factor IID (TFIID) complex is highly conserved between the Drosophila and mammalian systems. A mammalian homolog has been described for all the Drosophila TATA box-binding protein-associated factors (TAFs), with the exception of dTAF(II)150. We previously reported the identification of CIF, an essential cofactor for TFIID-dependent transcription from promoters containing initiator (Inr) elements.
