Background: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) accounts for 3-5 % of all head and neck malignancies. Investigations of outcomes from elective neck dissection (END) for patients with ACC are sparse. This study aimed to assess the impact of END on the survival of patients with ACC.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective multicentered multivariate analysis of 270 patients who underwent neck dissection.

Results: The incidence rate of neck metastases was 29%.

Background: Metastases to the thyroid gland are uncommon, with rates reported between 0.02% and 1.4% of surgically resected thyroid specimens.

Preoperative embolization in carotid body tumor surgery: is it required?

Objectives: We compared estimated blood loss (EBL) in patients who underwent surgical excision of carotid body tumors (CBTs) after preoperative superselective angiography with embolization (PSE) with that in patients who underwent excision of CBTs without PSE.

Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of a consecutive case series in a single surgeon's practice within an academic tertiary care medical center. Twenty-five patients underwent surgical resection of a CBT from 1989 to 2009.
