Investigation of domestic and hospital effluents in a sewage system of an elementary watershed showed that antibiotics belonging to eight classes were present with concentrations ranging from
This study presents the development of an automated on-line solid phase extraction (SPE)-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the determination of 23 antibiotics in environmental water samples. After optimisation of LC-MS/MS conditions, SPE parameters such as sorbent type, sample pH or sample volume were optimised. Antibiotic recoveries ranged from 64% to 98% and compared favourably with those achieved using off-line SPE.

In the present investigation we studied the effect of North African Androctonus australis garzonii scorpion toxin on neuropeptide Y (NPY) release from rat atria and kidneys by a perifusion system in vitro. To further understand the mechanisms of the scorpion toxin action on NPY release, the effects of icatibant (HOE 140, a selective bradykinin-B2 receptor antagonist), tetrodotoxin (TTX, a sodium channel antagonist) and diltiazem (a calcium channel antagonist), and the effect of the scorpion toxin on bradykinin (BK, a potent vasorelaxant peptide of the kinin group) release were studied in both tissues.

Gradient separation conditions were optimised for 17 compounds belonging to five different antibiotic groups: quinolones (oxolinic acid, nalidixic acid, pipemidic acid, flumequine), fluoroquinolones (enoxacin, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, enrofloxacin, sarafloxacin, danofloxacin, difloxacin, lomefloxacin), sulphonamides (sulphamethoxazole, sulphamethazine), nitro-imidazole (ornidazole) and diaminopyrimidine (trimethoprim). The separation of all compounds, obtained using a 1.

The target analytes belonged to 4 groups: quinolones, sulfonamides, nitro-imidazoles and diaminopyrimidines. This six-month survey (from January to June 2006) showed that different compounds were occurring at individual concentrations reaching 544 ng L(-)(1) (sulfamethoxazole).

Levels of ANP release from samples of atrium were studied by organ perifusion. Rats were exposed to light:dark (LD) cycles of 12:12 or 18:6 and sacrificed at different zeitgeber time (ZT) points: ZT0, ZT6, ZT8, ZT12, ZT16, and ZT19 for LD 12:12 or ZT0, ZT9, ZT16, ZT18, ZT20, and ZT 21.

In order to examine the effect of the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEi) quinapril, we performed a sensitive and specific radioimmunoassay (RIA) to quantify bradykinin, BK-(1-9), in heart and kidney tissues. The BK-(1-9) level was unaffected in the heart of sham and water-deprived rats treated for 2h with quinapril (10mg/kg), but was significantly higher in the kidneys in the two groups. In these conditions, circulating and tissue angiotensin II (Ang II) levels were significantly decreased by quinapril.
