Intensity of chemotherapy for the initial management of newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia in older patients.

This study evaluated the overall survival (OS) of older patients (≥60 years) with acute myeloid leukemia based on the intensity of treatment. This single center, retrospective study included 211 patients diagnosed between 2000 and 2016, who received 10-day decitabine, low-intensity therapy or high-intensity therapy. Cox regression examined the impact of therapy on OS.

Lung fibroblasts are believed to be a major source of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which supports the survival of lung endothelial cells and modulates the maintenance of the pulmonary microvasculature. VEGF has been related to the pathogenesis of lung diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) stimulates VEGF production from lung fibroblasts via the E-prostanoid (EP)-2 receptor.
