Oral implantology faces a multitude of technical challenges in light of current clinical experience, underlining the need for innovation in implantable medical devices in both mechanical and biological terms. This study explores the influence of the thickness factor of calcium-doped zirconia (Ca-SZ) coatings deposited by PVD on their intrinsic mechanical properties and the determinism of the latter on adhesion to the TA6V alloy substrate after mechanical loading for applications in dental implantology. Three separate thicknesses of 250 nm, 450 nm and 850 nm were evaluated in terms of mechanical strength, modulus of elasticity and adhesion to the substrate, in accordance with ISO 20502:2005.

Sea spray aerosols (SSAs) are one of the largest natural sources of aerosols globally, known to affect the earth's radiation budget and to play a pivotal role in air quality and climate. The physical and chemical properties of organic components in SSA change during long-distance atmospheric transport over the ocean. To characterize the evolution of organic components during the aging process of SSA, in this study, we use a flow reactor to simulate the oxidation processes of SSA produced by authentic seawater via OH radicals (in the presence of organic gases evaporated from seawater) and to present the molecular signatures of the nascent and aged SSA.

There is increasing evidence that therapy-related acute lymphoblastic leukemia (trALL) resulting from chemo- and/or radiotherapy represents a distinct entity. The chemical composition of aerosols plays a significant role in aerosol-cloud interactions and, although saccharides make up their largest organic mass fraction, the current process model for understanding sea spray aerosol (SSA) composition struggles to replicate the enrichment of saccharides that has been observed. Here, we simulated the generation of SSA and quantified the enrichment of two soluble saccharides (glucose and trehalose) in SSA with a homemade sea spray aerosol generator. The results of the generation experiments demonstrated that both saccharides, especially trehalose, can promote the generation of SSA, whereas surface-active fatty acids primarily inhibit SSA production due to fewer bubble bursts caused by a large amount of foam accumulation.

A hallmark of primate postimplantation embryogenesis is the specification of extraembryonic mesoderm (EXM) before gastrulation, in contrast to rodents where this tissue is formed only after gastrulation. Here, we discover that naive human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) are competent to differentiate into EXM cells (EXMCs). Titanium dental implants have common clinical applications due to their biocompatibility, biophysical and biochemical characteristics. The osseointegration of implants is defined as the direct anatomical and functional connection between neoformed living bone and the surface of a supporting implant. The biological compatibility of implants depends on various parameters, such as the nature of the material, chemical composition, surface topography, chemistry and loading, surface treatment, and physical and mechanical properties. In this context, the objective of this study is to evaluate the biocompatibility of rough (Ra = 1 µm) and smooth (Ra = 0 µm) surface conditions of yttria-zirconia (Y-TZP) discs compared to pure zirconia (ZrO) discs by combining a classical toxicological test, morphological observations by SEM, and a transcriptomic analysis on an in vitro model of human Saos-2 bone cells.
