The purpose of this study was to examine reactions to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised recommendations for HIV testing by women attending community health clinics. A total of 30 women attending three community clinics completed semistructured individual interviews containing three questions about the recommendations. Thematic content analysis of responses was conducted.

Aging individuals with HIV may be at risk for developing more age-related cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment, or even dementia. The incidence of HIV-related dementia was reduced sharply with the introduction of HAART. Positive mediators, such as good nutrition or cognitive remediation therapy, can potentially mitigate some of the negative cognitive consequences of aging with HIV.

Sleep disturbances may contribute to cognitive and psychomotor impairments. 50 HIV-positive and 50 HIV-negative adults were assessed on cognitive performance and sleep hygiene. The HIV-positive group performed more poorly on cognitive measures; however, no group differences were found for the sleep variables.

Sleep disturbances are common in normal people of several age groups and those with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) disease. In a secondary analysis of data, 50 HIV-positive and 50 HIV-negative adults between 30 and 65 years old responded to 5 items about sleep. No statistically significant differences by HIV status or age group were found.
