Personalized Treatment of Multiple Myeloma in Frail Patients.

Purpose Of Review: As the treatment landscape for multiple myeloma (MM) continues to expand at a rapid pace, management of older adults and frail patients becomes increasingly challenging. As these patients have traditionally been underrepresented on clinical trials, there is limited guidance on the optimal approach to frail patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) or relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM).

Recent Findings: Frailty is an independent predictor of tolerability and response to antineoplastic treatment.

Referral to and receipt of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in older adults with acute myeloid leukemia.

Introduction: Recent data have shown improved outcomes in selected older adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Nonetheless, practice patterns for referring and performing HSCT vary. We aimed to evaluate referral, utilization, and reasons for not referring/proceeding to HSCT in older adults with AML.

Early Progression of Follicular Lymphoma: Biology and Treatment.

Follicular lymphoma is the most common subtype of indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Although a majority of patients have a favorable prognosis, a subset of patients experiences early treatment failure. Progression of disease within 24 months of initial chemoimmunotherapy is associated with inferior survival.

Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation for Older Adults with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a disease that affects adults aged 65 years and above, and survival in this population is poor. Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) is a potentially curative therapy for these patients but is underutilized due to frequent comorbidities and perceived higher risk of treatment-related mortality and non-relapse mortality. Increasing data supports the utility of allo-HCT in fit older patients after intensive chemotherapy resulting in improvement of outcomes.
