The influence of different Lokomat walking conditions on the energy expenditure of hemiparetic patients and healthy subjects.

To determine the strenuousness and efficacy of therapy, the energy expenditure of 10 healthy and 10 hemiparetic subjects were measured while they walked on a treadmill that was combined with a robot-driven gait orthosis, the Lokomat, which physiologically exercises the legs of a patient on a moving treadmill. Subjects performed different Lokomat conditions after measurement of the baseline, i.e.

Unilateral cerebellar lesions influence arm movements bilaterally.

Limb ataxia is seen as a sign of ipsilateral cerebellar dysfunction. However, imaging studies have shown a bilateral cerebellar activation during unilateral hand movements. We questioned whether unilateral cerebellar lesions affect pointing movements not only of the ipsilateral hand but also of the contralateral hand.

Stair Ascending and Descending with the Cooperative Neuroprosthesis WALK!

Neuroprostheses enabling patients to ascend and descend stairs can provide real functional gain. A novel finite state control scheme is presented and validated experimentally. The motion tasks Ascent and Descent are specified by sequences of motion phases for each leg separately.
