Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at children with spine problems who were treated with growing rods and followed them for about 9 years to see how well the treatment worked.
  • They found that a lot of these kids, about 89%, had their spines start to fuse together on their own (autofusion) after using growing rods.
  • Additionally, they noticed that after the rods were removed, the kids had an average improvement in their spine curves, but they needed about 7 extra surgeries to fix problems caused by autofusion.
