[Gastric cancer and laparoscopy: analysis of data from the national register of laparoscopic gastric surgery].

Objective: To study the data from the Laparoscopic Gastric Surgery Spanish National Register of laparoscopic Gastric Surgery and to analyse the type of surgery, the conversion to laparotomy, postoperative complications and mortality.

Patients And Method: From March 2005 to July 2008, details of 302 laparoscopic gastric surgical interventions were sent to the Association of Spanish Surgeons web-site. Details of surgical technique, reconversion, clinical and pathological data, morbidity and mortality were collected and analysed.

Laparoscopically assisted ERCP in a case of acute cholangitis in a patient with biliopancreatic diversion with distal gastric preservation.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, biliopancreatic diversion (BPD; Scopinaro's technique), and BPD with distal gastric preservation (BPDGP) are different surgical procedures, currently performed with laparoscopic assistance, successfully used as a treatment for morbid obesity. All of these modalities bear the burden of a difficult access when it comes to explore and work within the biliary tract. We present a case of acute cholangitis due to choledocholithiasis in a patient with BPDGP for morbid obesity successfully managed by laparoscopy-assisted endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography through the gastric remnant.

Laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion with distal gastric preservation: technique and three-year followup.

Background: Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) has been used satisfactorily as one of several surgical treatments against morbid obesity in order to achieve long-term weight reduction. Our goal was to develop the BPD laparoscopically in humans in order to improve postoperative recovery and to reduce early and late complications, above all those derived from the abdominal wall, while maintaining the weight reduction results achieved. In addition, in order to reduce the laparoscopic difficulty of BPD technique and some complications associated with gastrectomy, we only carried it out in cases in which we considered it indispensable.

Laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion: technical aspects and results of our protocol.

Background: Biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) has been an excellent operation for morbid obesity to achieve long-term weight reduction. We present our laparoscopic BPD protocol, which includes laparoscopic BPD with or without gastrectomy.

Methods: Our two interventions are: 1) BPD (Scopinaro) by laparoscopy in patients with findings on gastroscopy; 2) BPD by laparoscopy with proximal gastric division without resection in patients without findings on gastroscopy.
