Background: Despite guidelines and recommendations, Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE) treatment lacks evidence, leading to clinical practice variability.
Aims: Given the overall lack of information on thiamine use for WE treatment, we analyzed data from a large, well-characterized multicenter sample of patients with WE, examining thiamine dosages; factors associated with the use of different doses, frequencies, and routes; and the influence of differences in thiamine treatment on the outcome.
Methods: This retrospective study was conducted with data from 443 patients from 21 centers obtained from a nationwide registry of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (from 2000 to 2012).
Background: data regarding the association between Wernicke encephalopathy (WE) and alcoholic liver disease (ALD) are scarce in spite of alcohol consumption being the main risk factor for WE.
Aims: to describe the frequency of ALD in a cohort of patients diagnosed with WE and alcohol use disorders (AUDs) and to compare the characteristics of WE patients with and without ALD.
Methods: we conducted an observational study in 21 centers through a nationwide registry of the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine.
Introduction: COVID-19 morbimortality is mainly associated with development of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which has been related to an augmented immune response of the host with elevated circulating cytokines.
Methods: In this prospective, multicenter, single arm (compared with a historical control), add-on, experimental phase 2 study, ruxolitinib 5 mg BID was added to standard of care in COVID-19 patients. Main objective was to determine efficacy and safety of ruxolitinib in patients with COVID-19-related SARS.
Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) may exist before or occur early in the course of pulmonary embolism (PE). We determined the PE outcomes based on the presence and timing of AF. Methods and Results Using the data from a multicenter PE registry, we identified 3 groups: (1) those with preexisting AF, (2) patients with new AF within 2 days from acute PE (incident AF), and (3) patients without AF.

Virtual surgical planning and 3D printing are ideal to achieve a predictable result. Through "hybrid techniques" (prebending plates with 3D-models) and free software, this goal is within reach for clinics with limited financial resources.

Methods: A cohort of 33 pedigrees affected with a variety of retinal disorders was analysed by WES.
Photochromic solid materials based on the cationic polymer poly(decylviologen) are reported. The solids were obtained by freeze-drying colloidal suspensions of nanocomplexes obtained by mixing aqueous solutions of the polycation with different solutions of polyanions such as poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) or sodium alginate, at a cationic/anionic polymeric charge ratio of 0.7.
