Background: There is controversial evidence regarding the impact of clinically relevant postoperative intra-abdominal collections (CR-IC) on the clinical course after pancreaticoduodenectomy. C-reactive Protein (CRP) has been validated as a predictor of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF). Still, its role in predicting CR-IC has not been studied.

We investigate the effect of surgery on plasma-borne DNA biomarkers and the oncological outcomes in resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). We also compare non-touch isolation techniques (NTIT) with standard techniques.

Methods: Analysis of the first year (2019) of the E-MIPS registry, including minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy (MIDP) and minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy (MIPD). Primary outcome was 90-day mortality.
Background: The impact of pre-existing comorbidities on acute pancreatitis (AP) mortality is not clearly defined. Our study aims to determine the trend in AP hospital mortality and the role of comorbidities as a predictor of hospital mortality.
Methods: We analyzed patients aged ≥ 18 years hospitalized with AP diagnosis between 2016 and 2019.
Background: The relevance of elevated serum triglyceride (TG) levels in the early stages of acute pancreatitis (AP) not induced by hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) remains unclear. Our study aims to determine the role of elevated serum TG levels at admission in developing pancreatic necrosis.
Methods: We analyzed the clinical data collected prospectively from patients with AP.
Background: The value of serum triglycerides (TGs) related to complications and the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) has not been clearly defined. Our study aimed to analyze the association of elevated levels of TG with complications and the severity of AP.
Methods: The demographic and clinical data of patients with AP were prospectively analyzed.
Chronic pancreatitis tends to develop a number of complications that may constitute the form of presentation of the disease. Some societies have issued guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of chronic pancreatitis complications, but the level of evidence for any topic is usually low and recommendations tend to be weak. We aimed to provide defined position statements for the clinician based on updated review of published literature and on multidisciplinary expert agreement.

Method: A prospective single-cohort observational study of patients diagnosed of acute pancreatitis (n = 152) was designed.
Chronic pancreatitis is associated with impaired quality of life, high incidence of comorbidities, serious complications and mortality. Healthcare costs are exorbitant. Some medical societies have developed guidelines for treatment based on scientific evidence, but the gathered level of evidence for any individual topic is usually low and, therefore, recommendations tend to be vague or weak.

It appears to originate from diverse and yet mixed etiological factors. It shows highly variable presenting features, complication types and disease progression rates.

Our study aimed to compare changes in BUN versus the Bedside Index for Severity in Acute Pancreatitis (BISAP) score and the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation-II score (APACHE-II), as well as other laboratory tests such as haematocrit and its variations over 24 h and C-reactive protein, in order to determine the most accurate test for predicting mortality and severity outcomes in AP.
Methods: Clinical data of 410 AP patients, prospectively enrolled for study at our institution, were analyzed.
Background: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a complex disease in which both non-genetic and genetic factors interplay. To date, 40 GWAS hits have been associated with PC risk in individuals of European descent, explaining 4.1% of the phenotypic variance.

Methods: One hundred and forty-nine patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis were prospectively enrolled. APACHE-II, MCTSI, and CTSI were calculated for all cases.
Background: Despite smoking being a well-established risk factor for pancreatic cancer, there is a need to further characterize pancreatic cancer risk according to lifespan smoking patterns and other smoking features, such as tobacco type. Our aim was to deeply investigate them within a large European case-control study.
Methods: Tobacco smoking habits and other relevant information were obtained from 2,009 cases and 1,532 controls recruited in the PanGenEU study using standardized tools.
Introduction: The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of hepatic artery lymph node (HALN) involvement on the survival of patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PA).
Methods: A single-center retrospective study analyzing patients who underwent PD for PA. Patients were included if, during PD, the HALN was submitted for pathologic evaluation.
Deciphering the underlying genetic basis behind pancreatic cancer (PC) and its associated multimorbidities will enhance our knowledge toward PC control. The study investigated the common genetic background of PC and different morbidities through a computational approach and further evaluated the less explored association between PC and autoimmune diseases (AIDs) through an epidemiological analysis. Gene-disease associations (GDAs) of 26 morbidities of interest and PC were obtained using the DisGeNET public discovery platform.

Methods: Clinical data of 176 AP patients prospectively enrolled were analysed. EPI analysed were bacteraemia, lung infection, urinary tract infection and catheter line infection.
Objectives: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a lethal cancer. Overexpression of Yes associated protein 1 (YAP1), a downstream target of Hippo pathway, implicated in regulation of cell growth and apoptosis, has been reported in several human tumor types. The objective of this study was to investigate YAP1 expression in patients with PDAC and its prognostic values.

We conducted a retrospective study to analyze outcomes of PD with PVR in a Spanish tertiary centre.
Methods: Between 2002 and 2012, 10 patients underwent PVR (PVR+ group) and 68 standard PD (PVR- group).
Chronic pancreatitis lesions usually embrace both intraduct papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Patients at genetically-determined high risk of PDAC often harbor IPMN and/or chronic pancreatitis, suggesting IPMN, chronic pancreatitis and PDAC may share pathogenetic mechanisms. Chronic autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) may also herald PDAC.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of a database of cases presented in 7 consecutive years at a tertiary center was performed.
Background/purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the outcome of patients undergoing hepatic resection for melanoma liver metastases.
Methods: Patients undergoing liver resection for melanoma metastases at the Hospital Vall d'Hebron and Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, were reviewed. Selection criteria were: good performance status, feasibly complete and safe resection, and absence of visceral extrahepatic metastases.
Background: Metastatic breast cancer is considered an incurable disease despite new therapies. Recent studies suggest that liver resection associated with systemic treatment may improve patient survival.
Patients And Methods: Patient selection criteria were: good performance status, the feasibility of a complete and safe surgical procedure, and absence of uncontrolled extrahepatic metastases.
