Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are trying to find better and safer ingredients for sunscreens because some current ones might not be effective or safe enough.
  • They studied eight new compounds created from combining different materials to see how well they absorb UV rays.
  • The results showed that some of these new compounds could absorb UV rays better and had good antioxidant properties, which means they can help protect skin from harm.

Sunscreen-based photoprotection is an important strategy to prevent photoaging and skin cancer. Among the effective and modern sunscreens, triazine compounds are known as an important class based on their physical-chemical properties, such as photostability and UV broad-spectrum absorption (UVA and UVB). Molecular modeling and quantum mechanical calculations approaches can be helpful to orientate the design of sunscreens.
