One spinal manipulation session reduces local pain sensitivity but does not affect postural stability in individuals with chronic low back pain: a randomised, placebo-controlled trial.

Background: Clinical practice guidelines recommend spinal manipulation for patients with low back pain. However, the effects of spinal manipulation have contradictory findings compared to placebo intervention. Therefore, this study investigated the immediate effects of lumbar spinal manipulation on pressure pain threshold (PPT) and postural stability in people with chronic low back pain (cLBP).

Patient and Surgical Risk Factors for Surgical Site Infection in Lower-Extremity Oncological Endoprosthetic Reconstruction: A Secondary Analysis of the PARITY Trial Data.

Background: The specific risk factors for surgical site infection (SSI) in orthopaedic oncology patients undergoing endoprosthetic reconstruction have not previously been evaluated in a large prospective cohort. In the current study, we aimed to define patient- and procedure-specific risk factors for SSI in patients who underwent surgical excision and endoprosthetic reconstruction for lower-extremity bone or soft-tissue tumors using the prospectively collected data of the Prophylactic Antibiotic Regimens in Tumor Surgery (PARITY) trial.

Methods: PARITY was a multicenter, blinded, randomized controlled trial with a parallel 2-arm design that aimed to determine the effect of a long duration (5 days) versus short duration (24 hours) of postoperative prophylactic antibiotics on the rate of SSI in patients undergoing surgical excision and endoprosthetic reconstruction of the femur or tibia.

ANKLE ARTHRODESIS WITH INTRAMEDULLARY RETROGRADE NAIL FOR BONE TUMORS. PRELIMINARY RESULTS AND SURGICAL TECHNIQUE.

Objective: Present the preliminary results of a case series using the surgical ankle arthrodesis technique with an intramedullary retrograde nail for bone tumors.

Methods: We present the preliminary data of 4 patients, 3 males and 1 female, with a mean age of 46,2 (range 32 to 58) years, with histology proven Giant Cell Tumour of bone in 3 and osteosarcoma in 1. The mean resection length of distal tibia was 11,75 (range 9 to 16) cm, and all the patients underwent reconstruction with a tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis with an intercalary allograft fixed by a retrograde intramedullary nail.

Immediate effects of spinal manipulation on painful sensitivity and postural stability in patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain: study protocol for a controlled randomised clinical trial.

Background: Low back pain is one of the main public health concerns. Chronic low back pain (cLBP) reduces functional capacity and affects postural stability. Although health professionals widely use spinal manipulation, its immediate effect on painful sensitivity and postural stability is lacking.

Cemented total hip arthroplasty with retention of some existing hardware.

We report a case of a 63-year-old man who presented an end stage hip osteoarthritis 42 years after a proximal femoral osteotomy performed for the treatment of an intracapsular femoral neck fracture. A cemented total hip arthroplasty was implanted using a standard posterior approach. The osteotomy hardware was totally covered with a new cortical bone formation.
