The radiological and clinical picture of a developmental hip dislocation and a severe subluxation are identical. According to Leveuf and Wiberg the diagnosis can only be made by arthrography. The differential diagnosis is critical, as treatment differs dependent on the diagnosis.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the technique of screw epiphysiodesis for effectiveness, predictability, and reversibility. We reviewed the cases of our first 60 patients (105 physes) treated with percutaneous screw epiphysiodesis or hemiepiphysiodesis. All cases were followed up to maturity or screw removal if growth remained after full correction.

Clinical and radiological evidence of knee instability was used as criteria for elevation of medial tibial condyle in severe tibia vara. Restoration of tension to the exposed medial collateral ligament was used as a guide for the required amount of elevation. A second-stage proximal tibial osteotomy was performed later for correction of the remaining varus deformity.

Since 1986, the author has been performing a modified Pemberton acetabuloplasty (MPA) with the deliberate aim of producing a greenstick fracture at the sciatic notch. This procedure was performed in 16 girls representing 17 hips. Nine hips (eight patients) were dislocated.
