The gut microbiome plays a significant role in physiological functions such as nutrient processing, vitamin production, inflammatory response, and immune modulation, which, in turn, are important contributors to athlete health and performance. To date, the interpretation, discussion, and visualization of microbiome results of athletes are challenging, due to a lack of standard parameters and reference data for collection and comparison. The ketogenic diet (KD) is, nowadays, considered an interesting nutritional approach for weight loss and improvement in insulin resistance. Nevertheless, most of the studies available in the literature do not allow a clear distinction between its effects on insulin sensitivity per se, and the effects of weight loss induced by KDs on insulin sensitivity. In sports, curcumin, a substance derived from the rhizome of (turmeric) plant with antioxidant effect 8 times greater than vitamin E, has attracted the attention of scientists because of its potent antioxidant action, since in athletes subjected to intense exercise the-endogenous mechanisms of neutralization of reactive species are saturated.
