Background/objectives: There is a need to monitor physical fitness in HIV-diagnosed children and adolescents, and body mass index (BMI) could be an option for this due to its usability for assessing nutritional status and fat mass. The present study aimed to explore the relationship between BMI and physical fitness in HIV-diagnosed children and adolescents.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 86 HIV-diagnosed children and adolescents aged 5-15, with participants from two research protocols (Study I, = 65; Study II, = 21).
is the causative bacterium of porcine enzootic pneumonia and one of the primary etiologic agents of the porcine respiratory disease complex. Most Brazilian commercial pig farms are positive for this pathogen. However, the prevalence of the pathogen in backyard pig farms has not been described, to our knowledge.

We aim to compare the effectiveness and safety of treatment modalities in patients with Graves' disease or toxic nodular disease.
Methods: Single center retrospective cohort study of Graves' disease and toxic nodular disease patients treated between 1983 and 2023.
Muscle tears/strains are among the most common musculoskeletal injuries, posing a serious challenge for sports medicine. Aiming to reduce the time to return to play and the rate of reinjuries, apart from the traditional conservative treatments and rehabilitation protocols, new and innovative therapeutic options have emerged, particularly platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This study aims to present the available evidence regarding PRP injection for the treatment of muscle strains in athletes.

Background: Health-related physical fitness has been widely used to investigate the adverse effects of HIV infection/ART in children and adolescents. However, methods/protocols and cut-points applied for investigating health-related physical fitness are not clear. The aim of this scoping review was to map the literature to identify gaps in knowledge regarding the methods/protocols and cut-points.

Selective laser sintering (SLS) is one of the most well-regarded additive manufacturing (AM) sub-processes, whose popularity has been increasing among numerous critical and demanding industries due to its capabilities, mainly manufacturing parts with highly complex geometries and desirable mechanical properties, with potential to replace other, more expensive, conventional processes. However, due to its various underlying multi-physics phenomena, the intrinsic complexity of the SLS process often hampers its industrial implementation. Such limitation has motivated academic interest in obtaining better insights into the process to optimize it and attain the required standards.

Better results are still needed to ensure the long-term patency of stenting in this area. The Supera stent appears to change this paradigm.

A mediastinal cavernous hemangioma is difficult to distinguish from other types of mediastinal tumours. They are usually asymptomatic and incidentally discovered in an imaging study but can present with compressive symptoms or by infiltration of adjacent structures. A 64-year-old woman with a prior history of triple negative invasive carcinoma of the breast, under surveillance was referred after a Chest CT-scan showed a soft tissue 40x20 mm mediastinal mass, suggestive of a thymoma, and as such no tissue biopsy was obtained.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented disruption in healthcare systems worldwide, and Portugal was no exception. We analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in activity of our Vascular Access Center (Grupo Estudos Vasculares - GEV).
Material And Methods: This is a retrospective study, during March 2019 and February 2021.
Schistosomiasis is a prevalent disease in Brazil whose etiological agent is Schistosoma mansoni, the main species associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a serious complication. It is estimated that this complication affects up to 15% of patients with the hepatosplenic form of the disease. Despite being an endemic country, Brazil does not have a screening scheme for cases of PAH associated with schistosomiasis (PAH-Sch), nor protocols for notification and treatment of this vascular complication.

The primary focus of this research was to evaluate the gonadosomatic index (GI) in captive-conditioned over a five-month period and compare it with that of their wild-caught conspecifics. Additionally, two different spawning induction methods were assessed: potassium chloride (KCl) injection and agitation.

In particular, supratentorial EPN (ST-EPN) must be differentiated from more aggressive entities such as glioblastoma, IDH-wildtype. This task is frequently addressed with the use of immunohistochemistry coupled with clinical presentation and morphological features.

In gynecologic pathology, the recent description of uterine sarcoma resembling fibrosarcoma and with NTRK rearrangements ( NTRK -rearranged uterine sarcoma) highlights the importance of recognizing clinicopathological cues that can lead to genomic profiling. Herein, we report the case of a 43-year-old woman presenting with vaginal bleeding and pelvic mass.

Background: Engaging in advance care planning can be emotionally challenging, but gamification and technology are suggested as a potential solution.
Objective: Present the development stages of a mobile app prototype to improve quality of life for patients in palliative care.
Design: The study started with a comprehensive literature review to establish a foundation.
Background: The management of antidiabetic therapy in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) has evolved beyond glycemic control. In this context, Brazil and Portugal defined a joint panel of four leading diabetes societies to update the guideline published in 2020.
Methods: The panelists searched MEDLINE (via PubMed) for the best evidence from clinical studies on treating T2D and its cardiorenal complications.

Method: Children and adolescents, aged 8-14 years (mean age = 12.21 y, SD = 2.
Stent-grafts have been increasingly used in hemodialysis arteriovenous accesses, particularly in recurrent stenosis or in cases of vein rupture after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). Although they limit neointimal hyperplasia, stenosis development at stent edges remains a concern. Despite their advantages, they are seldom used on the forearm veins due to fracture risk associated with elbow motion and the potential to limit cannulation sites.

Communication between the multidisciplinary team, the person, and the family in palliative and end-of-life situations implies, in most situations, a high negative emotional burden. Therefore, innovative strategies are needed to reduce it. The goal of this study is to describe the various stages of development and validation of a collaborative card game for people in palliative care and their families.

However, it is a laborious and complex task as it requires vast surface areas, with difficult access, to be surveyed. Remotely sensed data can be a great contribution to such operations, especially for clearly visible and predominant species.

Background: During childhood and adolescence, there are significant increases in bone mineral content (BMC) and bone mineral density (BMD).
Objective: To investigate physical growth parameters associated with BMD and BMC among children and adolescents diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Design And Setting: Cross-sectional study conducted in Florianópolis, Brazil, among 63 children and adolescents (aged 8-15 years) diagnosed with HIV.
Background: Despite the wide variety of Covid-19 symptoms, pain and the related mechanisms underlying unsettled nociceptive status are still under-prioritized. Understanding the complex network of Covid-19-related pain may result in new lines of study. It is unknown whether patient's immunological background influences pain in the acute phase of Covid-19, including musculoskeletal pain.

Prevalence and incidence of thyroid diseases are highly dependent on iodine intake and, thus, iodine deficiency disease prevention programs. We aimed to collect European register data on thyroid outcomes to compare the rates between countries/regions with different iodine status and prevention programs.

Pressures play an essential role in the mechanism of lesion, and their reduction is effective in prevention. We conducted a systematic review to evaluate pedobarography as a predictive tool for ulcer development, since there is still no consensus on this aspect.
