This study aims to analyze the oral health care network in Santa Catarina State, Brazil, in municipalities with 100,000 inhabitants or more, focusing on the identification and integration of the network's essential elements. Primary data were obtained through a structured questionnaire applied to oral health care administrators. Secondary data were collected from official databases and provided by the Municipal and State Health Departments.

The scope of this research was to analyze the ethical dimension of the training of health professionals, specifically in Dentistry. Interviews were conducted with teachers, in addition to observation of academic activities and focus groups with students of two undergraduate courses. Data analysis revealed some elements of the hidden curriculum that influences the ethical dimension of training.

This case study sought to delineate an overview of ethics training on Brazilian undergraduate dentistry courses, in order to gather knowledge related to the changes required with regard to training ethically competent health professionals. Thus, the scope of this study ethics training of students was defined by a conceptual reference, constructed at the interface of inter-related concepts. The reference also contributed to the outlining of this qualitative research, which includes a questionnaire with ethical-pedagogical questions, sent to the coordinators of 15 courses selected for the sample.

This article discusses some issues related to Brazilian dental researches having the bioethics as the rationale for appraising the adequacy of the scientific production in relation to the social context, aiming to contribute to a shift of the professional health formation. From a search in journals database and CAPES ranking instrument (Qualis) it was observed that most journals are aimed to publish dental materials and techniques of limited social range. This result reflects a trend of the scientific knowledge in this field to focus the market rather than national and regional needs which should be the priority under the bioethical point of view.

The present work presents a brief history of health plans in Brazil examining the interface between the public and the private sector. The evolution and regulation of the supplementary care system is analyzed, the different care modalities are defined and the main differences between health plans and dental care insurance are pointed out. The coverage provided by the supplementary care system and its relationship with the public health system is shown on the basis of current data.
