Purpose: To describe early cone changes detected by adaptive optics (AO) in patients on chronic hydroxychloroquine (HC) treatment with no abnormalities on standard functional or structural retinal tests.
Methods: Case-control study including 36 eyes of 36 female patients. Cases included 18 women on HC for autoimmune disease whose cumulative dose exceeded 1600 g and who demonstrated no evidence of retinal toxicity on visual field (VF), spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), or multifocal electroretinography (mfERG).

Background: Uncorrected myopia is a leading cause of blindness globally, with a rising prevalence in recent decades. Pathological myopia, often seen in individuals with increased axial length (AXL), can result in severe structural changes in the posterior pole, including myopic tractional maculopathy (MTM). View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: To describe the association of serous maculopathy with absence of retinal pigment epithelium (SMARPE) and large drusen in patients with non-neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Methods: A retrospective study of ophthalmic examination and multimodal imaging data of individuals with SMARPE and large drusen observed over a period of 12-month was accomplished. SMARPE was defined as subretinal accumulation of fluid within the macular area due to retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) aperture.
An accurate potential energy surface (PES) for the lowest lying A''4 state of the CNO system is presented based on explicitly correlated multi-reference configuration interaction calculations with quadruple zeta basis set (MRCI-F12/cc-pVQZ-F12). The ab initio energies are fitted using the double many-body expansion method, thus incorporating long-range energy terms that can accurately describe the electrostatic and dispersion interactions with physically motivated decaying functions. Together with the previously fitted lowest A'2 and A''2 states using the same theoretical framework, this constitutes a new set of PESs that are suitable to predict rate coefficients for all atom-diatom reactions of the CNO system.

Objective: To assess endoscopic and histopathological findings following a standardized protocol of biopsy collection two years after OAGB.
Methods: A historical cohort study was conducted, based on a prospectively collected database, which involved 39 participants who underwent OAGB.
A 7-week-old male delivered by cesarean section presented with a positive serology for dengue along with preretinal and retinal hemorrhages, vitreous opacities and cotton wool spots. The patient and his mother had positive serologies for Non Structural Protein 1 (NS1) by ELISA. Retinal and vitreous findings improved over a sixteen-week period.

In this work, the non-linear approach for this method will be applied to retrieve the empirical parameters of potential energy function, [Formula: see text], between adsorbate and adsorbent from experimental data. Since the adsorption data is related to the second virial coefficient and therefore to [Formula: see text] through an integral equation, the Hopfield Neural Network will be used to find the best parameters which fits the experimental data.

Methods: We carried out an open prospective study with ninety-nine diabetic patients (194 eyes), who were submitted to an ophthalmological examination in which undergraduate students registered images of the fundus using a smartphone-based device. At the same occasion, an experienced nurse captured fundus photographs from the same patients using a gold standard tabletop camera system (Canon CR-2 Digital Non-Mydriatic Retinal Camera), with a 45º field of view.
The Hopfield neural network has been applied successfully to solve ill-posed inverse problems in simple monoatomic liquids structure using scattering experimental data to retrieve the radial distribution function, g(r), and direct correlation function, C(r). In this work, the method was extended to a more complex system: a two-component glassy solid, GeSe. To acquire results with correct peak intensities and behavior for large values of r, it was necessary to carry out the calculations a few times by adjusting the initial conditions to solve a set of coupled equations.

Introduction: bariatric surgery is currently the only treatment that leads to long-term and sustained weight loss and decreased morbidity and mortality in morbidly obese individuals. Roux-en-Y bypass causes weight loss by restricting food intake associated with reduced intestinal absorption, in addition to multiple endocrine and satiogenic effects. Biliopancreatic diversion promotes weight loss mainly due to poor absorption of the nutrients ingested.

Background: A large number of clinicians reuse healing abutments to decrease treatment costs although it can promote infection due to the presence of remnant biofilm biomass.
Methods: One hundred and eighty-five titanium healing abutments previously used for 3 months in oral cavity were assessed in this study.
Background: Slight to moderate hepatic iron overload (HIO) can be found in cases of liver disease, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but the mechanism is not completely understood, as well as its relationship with obesity.
Objective: To determine the prevalence of HIO assessed through histopathological examination in obese individuals undergoing bariatric surgery and to identify correlations between this condition and demographic, anthropometric, clinical, laboratory, and NAFLD-related aspects.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study which enrolled individuals undergoing bariatric surgery from January 2018 to February 2019 at a tertiary university hospital.
Background: Isolated monoliths of granitic and/or gneissic rock rising abruptly from the surrounding landscape are known as inselbergs. Dome-shaped inselbergs are common throughout the Atlantic Forest in south-eastern Brazil, a region known as Sugarloaf Land (SLL). This study aimed to create the first checklist of vascular plant species occurring on lowland inselbergs in SLL, with a focus on vegetation islands.
