Objective: To compare the prevalence of smokers among patients with chronic low back pain, in the presence and absence of Modic changes, also the correlation between smoking history and progression of the Modic scale.
Methods: Observational study, case-control type, with the inclusion of 340 vertebral segments in a total of 68 patients, separated into groups: with Modic (case group) and without Modic (control group). The odds ratio between the groups was verified using the Chi-Square test.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of sliding osteotomy of the lateral epicondyle in correcting rigid valgus deformity in knee arthroplasty.
Methods: A retrospective study of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty with lateral epicondyle sliding osteotomy between 2006 and 2018. The main outcome was the incidence of complications and adverse events.

Background: Human multi-tissue banks (HMTB) are important health institutions specialized in the capture, processing, and distribution of human tissues for transplants and research, aiming for safety and quality in the supply of their products, intended for reconstructive surgeries and injury repair, in addition to contributing to the advancement of research developed in regenerative medicine. This study aims to report and share the experience of implementing an HMTB, as well as creating an institution's own quality management system.
Methods: This is a descriptive study, an experience report type, which identifies historical aspects of an HMTB's actions in the 5 years of implementing and operating the service.
Objective: to outline the profile of risk groups for spinal cord injury (SCI) at the Hospital de Clinicas de Campinas by an epidemiological survey of 41 patients with SCI.
Methods: Data from patients with SCI were collected and analyzed: demographic data, level of neurological injury, visual analogue scale (VAS), and the current American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) impairment scale (AIS), using questionnaires, medical records, and imaging tests. Fisher's exact test was used to assess the relationship between categorical variables, Spearman's correlation coefficient was used for numerical variables, and the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to analyze the relationship between categorical and numerical variables, with significance level of 5%.
To access the possibility that higher degrees of disc degeneration lead to higher levels of pain and dysfunction. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of 85 patients with low back pain lasting for more than 12 weeks were evaluated, and the degree of disc degeneration was quantified according to the Pfirrmann grading system. The Pfirrmann degree in each disc space from L1-L2 to L5-S1, the maximum degree of Pfirrmann (Pfirrmann-max) between the lumbar discs, and the sum of Pfirrmann (Pfirrmann-sum) degrees were correlated (through the Spearman test) with the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and the Visual Analogical Scale (VAS) for pain.

Although previous papers have investigated the regeneration of articular cartilage, the good results achieved in small animals have not been replicated in large animal models or humans, possibly because of the frequent use of models with perforation of the subchondral bone plates. Partial-thickness lesions spare the subchondral bone, and this pattern is the most frequent in humans; therefore, new therapies should be tested using this model.

Background: Biomechanical gait changes are proposed as adaptations to medial knee osteoarthritis (OA), and little is known about which parameters can be modified early by high tibial osteotomy (HTO) surgery. The aim of this study was to identify early gait changes in a postoperative period of 6 months as compared to a control group, in three different spatial planes.
Methods: Twenty-one patients with OA were submitted to three-dimensional gait analysis preoperatively and 6 months after HTO surgery.
