Article Synopsis
  • The study addresses the challenge of detecting how plants respond to stress and communicate with each other without causing damage to them.
  • Researchers collected data on maize plants under different conditions, including herbivory, to analyze plant responses through phytocomponds and hyperspectral imaging.
  • The findings suggest that hyperspectral imaging could be a valuable, non-invasive tool for understanding plant responses to stress and plant-plant communication, with no previous studies linking phytocompound data to leaf reflectance.

This study investigated the effect of macrospora leaf spot (MLS), caused by Stenocarpella macrospora, on photosynthetic gas exchange parameters and chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters determined in leaves of plants from two maize cultivars ('ECVSCS155' and 'HIB 32R48H') susceptible and highly susceptible, respectively, to S. macrospora. MLS severity was significantly lower in the leaves of plants from ECVSCS155 relative to the leaves of plants from HIB 32R48H.
