Metabolic Disturbances in Children Treated for Solid Tumors.

Metabolic disturbances are among the most common disorders diagnosed in pediatric patients after anti-cancer therapy (ACT). The aim of our study was to evaluate the prevalence of metabolic disturbances among patients after ACT. The study group comprised 44 patients (31 boys) treated for solid tumors and 31 patients in the control group.

Introduction: Pediatric Graves' disease is rare in young children, more frequent in children with other autoimmune diseases or with family history of autoimmune thyroid disease.

Metabolomics is a new field of medicine focused on examining and analyzing metabolites produced in biological cells. Biological fluids primarily used in this method include: plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva and urine. The most common methods of evaluating the composition involve nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and magnetic resonance (MR) with addition of gas chromatography (GC-MS) or liquid chromatography (LC-MS).
