Unlabelled: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) are diseases that occur only in preterm infants. The etiology of these disorders is multifactorial; however, it is believed that some of the factors in children presenting with BPD affect both the initiation and severity of ROP. The aim of the study was to evaluate the degree of clinical severity of ROP in infants with BPD compared to those without BPD.

Preterm birth adversely affects the maturation of the central nervous system, including the process of white matter myelination, still incomplete at this stage. Prematurity is also a risk factor for the future visual impairment. Decreased visual acuity in premature infants observed during their development, may be caused by both retinopathy of prematurity and the damage to the central nervous system.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 is an autosomal dominant genetic disease, which belongs to the neuro-oculo-cutaneous syndromes (phakomatoses). The authors present a case of a girl with familial neurofibromatosis. In addition to typical skin lesions and Lisch nodules on the iris, the plexiform neurofibroma of the upper eyelid and orbit as well as hamartoma of the central nervous system were observed.

Introduction: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a disease of the retina and the vitreous body present in children prematurely born. In the groups of babies with retinopathy of prematurity as well as among in the group of babies without pathological lesions, however, with retinal immaturity, occurrence of complications in the form of refractive errors and abnormality in the eyeballs position can be observed. The aim of the study was to analyze the frequency of occurrence of hypermetropia, myopia, astigmatism and eyeballs position disorders in the form of strabismus and nystagmus in premature babies.
