Retinal microvascular function is highly depending on macrovascular circulation and especially on blood pressure variability and nocturnal blood pressure. The eyes are more subject to central hemodynamics compared to peripheral pressures. Pulse wave analysis is essential here and can reveal masked aortic hypertension.
