Introduction: Recently catheter ablation has been accepted as standard therapy for symptomatic supraventricular tachycardia in children. Nature of childhood and the variability of congenital heart diseases and congenital heart surgery distinguishes pediatric catheter ablation from the adult practice.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to summarize a single-center experience of the first 30 consecutive patients regarding the electrophysiological studies and catheter ablations, moreover to report on the national adoption of these interventions for pediatric patients in Hungary.

Lethal injuries of the thorax due to shots fired from blank cartridges calibre 8 mm are reported in three cases. The muzzle of the weapon was in contact with the left side of the breast (contact discharge) and injuries to bones were absent in all three cases. In two of the cases the pericardium was not involved but the anterior wall of the right heart ventricle was ruptured and death was due to cardiac tamponade.

The terminal, membrane-damaging complement complex C5b-9 accumulates in the infarcted myocardium. In experimental myocardial infarction, we investigated the time course of C5b-9 deposition and the influence of reperfusion. In a group of 17 rabbits (group 1), the circumflex coronary artery was occluded for different time periods ranging from 0.

The early schocklung-syndrome was investigated by morphological and morphometrical methods in order to discriminate the influence of different etiological factors on shock. Survival times up to 11 days were included in the investigation. We compared lungs from polytrauma with and without lung contusion and lungs after hypovolemic shock due to sharp violence.

Flumazenil (Anexate) reverses promptly the hypnotic effects of all known benzodiazepines. From the point of view of traffic medicine the question is of interest whether side effects after application of flumazenil can be seen and must be taken in account. Our investigations were concerned in answering this question.

During summer-like outdoor temperature, a seven-month old female infant was put into a sleeping bag, wrapped up with a blanket and tied up by her mother and a friend of hers because of unrest and continuous screaming. Prior to that, between 0.30 a.

The purpose of this paper is to define the criteria for the differential diagnosis of trauma following resuscitation and road accidents. To this end, 311 cases of thoracic and epigastric trauma were selected from the 2893 medico-legal autopsies carried out between 1979 and 1982 at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the University of Heidelberg. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation had to be considered as the cause of trauma in 140 of these, but 45 of this group were excluded from further evaluation as they had been the victims of blunt trauma and no clear-cut distinction was possible between trauma resulting from an accident and trauma resulting from resuscitation.

We analysed the composition of parenchymal lung tissue from eleven multiply injured patients who died of protracted respiratory failure after an accident and six normal lungs. Lung wet and dry weights, protein, DNA, RNA and collagen amounts were determined in the lungs. Concentrations per dry weight of all parameters revealed only minor changes.

We recently reported on an unusually high correlation between the post mortem interval and the postmortem (pm) increase of the muscular threshold to galvanic stimuli (Rheobase) in the skeletal muscle of the rat. To find out whether a practicable method of estimating the time of death could be developed out of this, we investigated skeletal muscles of 11 individuals having died from various causes. The muscles were stimulated electrically by square-impulses of 1 s length at 200 V, the strength ranging from 0.

Interstitial edema in the alveolar septa is the first morphologically recognisable change to be observed in cases of shock. It is brought about by the altered function of the membranes of the damaged epithelium and endothelium in the alveolar wall. At the same time there is an impairment of gaseous exchange, which is rendered more difficult by the exudative process in the interstitium.

Lung weight, extravascular water content, hemoglobin content as an index of blood congestion, and DNA content as an index of cellular content, were determined for 57 patients dying from multiple, extrathoracic trauma. This report, which confirms previous publications, concerns itself in particular with the problems of determination of the "normal" lung weight. Studies of the influence of survival time on the lung showed that lung weight may significantly increase to twice its value after very short times up to one hour after trauma as a result of blood congestion, and following longer survival may be elevated several times as a result of developing interstitial edema.
