The potential impact of exercise upon symptom burden in adolescents and young adults undergoing cancer treatment.

Purpose: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) experience vast symptom burden resulting from cancer treatment-related toxicities (TRTs). Evidence supports integrated exercise to mitigate several TRTs in other cohorts; however, evidence in AYAs is lacking. Conventional reporting of TRTs adopts a maximum grade approach failing to recognise the trajectory over time, of persistent, or lower grade toxicities.

Disseminating early interventions for disaster mental health response using the ECHO model.

Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO)-based telementoring was evaluated for disseminating early disaster interventions, Psychological First Aid (PFA) and Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR), to school professionals throughout rural, disaster-affected communities further affected by COVID-19. PFA and SPR complemented their Multitiered System of Support: PFA complemented tier 1 (universal) and SPR tier 2 (targeted) prevention. We evaluated the outcomes of a pretraining webinar (164 participants, January 2021) and four-part PFA training (84 participants, June 2021) and SPR training (59 participants, July 2021) across five levels of Moore's continuing medical education evaluation framework: (1) participation, (2) satisfaction, (3) learning, (4) competence, and (5) performance, using pre-, post-, and 1-month follow-up surveys.

Engagement in a Preventive Intervention for Preadolescent Children in Foster Care: Considerations for Intervention Design.

Engagement in mental health-focused preventive interventions is understudied. Demographic, child, and system-level predictors of engagement were explored in a study with children in foster care (N = 222, M = 10.3) who participated in a 30-week intervention.

Beyond the ACE score: Examining relationships between timing of developmental adversity, relational health and developmental outcomes in children.

Background: The association between developmental adversity and children's functioning is complex, particularly given the multifaceted nature of adverse experiences. The association between the timing of experience and outcomes is underresearched and clinically under-appreciated. We examine how the timing of both adverse (including potentially traumatic) events and relational poverty are associated with developmental outcomes.

Management of noncardiac chest pain in women.

Noncardiac chest pain (NCCP) is very prevalent in the community. Although mortality remains low, morbidity and the financial implications are high. Women, especially those of middle age, should be thoroughly investigated as per current guidelines for coronary artery disease before labeling their chest pain as NCCP.

Persistant pre-eclampsia post partum with elevated liver enzymes and hemolytic uremic syndrome.

The spectrum of complications with pre-eclampsia, which may include AFLP (acute fatty liver of pregnancy) as well as the HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets), is resolved by early delivery. However, the ravages of HUS/TTP (hemolytic uremic syndrome/thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura) require therapy usually by plasma exchange. Overlap between these two groups of syndromes has occurred on rare occasions and usually requires the therapy of the predominant or more dangerous or threatening form.

Predictable recovery from myasthenia gravis crisis with plasma exchange: thirty-six cases and review of current management.

Adult, acquired, idiopathic, autoimmune myasthenia gravis has a well-characterized IgG anti-acetylcholine striated-muscle receptor antibody. Removal by plasma exchange is effective, established therapy to augment anti-cholinesterase and immunosuppressive therapy and is the treatment of choice for myasthenia gravis crisis. We report 36 consecutive patients referred and accepted for plasma exchange, 32 of whom were in or entering myasthenia crisis, over a 10 year period.

Characteristics of 73 patients, 1984-1993, treated by plasma exchange for Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Acute Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is a demyelinating polyneuropathy which responds readily to plasma exchange (PEX). According to the North American Acute GBS PEX study there is a 50% or more reduction in the recovery time if PEX is initiated early in the course of the disease. Demyelinating antibodies are usually IgM.

Swelling of collagen intracanalicular implants.

Background: Absorbable intracanalicular collagen implants are used to attempt to determine if permanent closure of the tear drainage system will diminish or alleviate the signs and symptoms of dryness. The rate of swelling of the collagen implants was measured in vitro in this study.

Methods: Collagen implants were submersed in saline, Refresh Plus artificial tears or Tobrex antibiotic solution on a hanging drop microscope slide.
