Importance: The ranks of academic physicians do not reflect the diversity of the US population. To create a diverse and effective medical workforce, it is important to know the extent to which gender, race and ethnicity, and the intersection of these factors are associated with career advancement.
Objective: To assess whether race and ethnicity and gender are associated with appointment to or promotion within academic medicine.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cohort study analyzed data from 155 medical schools for 1978 to 2021, which were obtained from the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Emergency medical diseases (EMDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. A time-to-death analysis is needed to accurately identify the risks and describe the pattern of an EMD because the mortality rate can peak early and then decline. The frequency of supplemental screening with automated breast ultrasound and the effect and type of breast tissue density notification on automated screening breast ultrasound utilization rates are unknown.
Materials And Methods: We examined normal mammogram results letters for patients with heterogeneously or extremely dense breast tissue between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014, by type of results letter, notification method, and sociodemographic characteristics.
Background: Allergy has sharply increased in affluent Western countries in the last 30 years. N-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LCPUFAs) may protect the immune system against development of allergy.
Methods: We prospectively categorized illnesses by body system in a subset of 91 children from the Kansas City cohort of the DIAMOND (DHA Intake and Measurement of Neural Development) study who had yearly medical records through 4 years of age.

Purpose: This cross-sectional study was designed to explore potential factors associated with perceived cognitive impairment (PCI) in breast cancer survivors compared to controls and gain insight into perceived levels of severity for cognitive complaints.
Methods: Women (N = 363, 317: breast cancer, 46: healthy controls) completed demographic questionnaire, MD Anderson Symptom Inventory, Attentional Function Index, and Functional Assessment for Cancer Therapy-Cognition. Group classification included pre-chemotherapy, current chemotherapy, and postchemotherapy (<1, >1- < 2, >2- < 5, >5 years).
Background: Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC), a variant of lung cancer marked by early metastases, accounts for 13% of all lung cancers diagnosed in US. Despite high response rates to treatment, it is an aggressive disease with a median survival of 9-11 months for patients with extensive stage (EX-SCLC). Detection of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) is a novel laboratory technique currently in use to determine response to therapy and to predict prognosis in breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer.

Methods And Results: HF patients (n=198) were randomly assigned to standard care or standard care plus multidisciplinary group clinics. The group intervention consisted of 4 weekly clinic appointments and 1 booster clinic at month 6, where multidisciplinary professionals engaged patients in HF self-management skills.
Though extrapulmonary small cell carcinoma was first described over 80 years ago, definitive treatment recommendations are lacking. The treatment strategies commonly utilized are extrapolated from pulmonary small cell carcinoma experience. A better understanding of this entity is needed to improve management approach.

To determine the equivalency of pressure measurements from peripherally inserted central catheters(PICCs) versus centrally inserted central venous catheters(CVCs) in vitro as well as in vivo. The in vitro study was performed in a clinical laboratory. Static pressure measurements from PICCs and CVCs were obtained in vitro over a physiologic range of 5–25 mmHg.

The KanQuit study enrolled 750 rural smokers across all stages of readiness to stop smoking and provided pharmacotherapy management and/or disease management, including motivational interviewing (MI) counseling every 6 months over 2 years.
