Article Synopsis
  • Carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) is crucial in combating climate change, and this study focuses on creating an effective CCUS framework for China.
  • The researchers developed a model that improves source-sink matching and optimizes pipeline networks to connect various carbon sources to storage sites across China's landscape.
  • The results indicated significant carbon supply potential from industries like coal power and steel, with a detailed pipeline network covering 80,700 km that could serve as a blueprint for similar initiatives in other countries.

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated biomarkers for diagnosing primary immune thrombocytopaenia (ITP) using an Olink proteomics platform analyzing plasma samples from ITP patients, non-ITP patients, and healthy controls.
  • Researchers identified 10 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs), such as CXCL11 and TGF-β1, that were notably elevated in ITP patients compared to other groups.
  • The analysis suggests these proteins could serve as potential diagnostic biomarkers for ITP, highlighting a distinct inflammatory proteomic profile in affected patients.

Objective: Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is a common bleeding disorder. Although global lipidomic analyses have identified a potential role for lipid species in platelet function, there is currently no evidence to support a causal relationship between plasma lipids and ITP. To investigate this further, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis to determine whether there is a genetically predicted causal relationship between 179 plasma lipid groups and ITP.

Objective: To investigate the safety of laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) in elderly patients and the related risk factors admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after LPD.

Methods: The perioperative data of patients who underwent LPD in Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from February 2017 to June 2023 were retrospectively collected, including basic data, preoperative laboratory indicators, intraoperative and postoperative indicators, pathological results (tumor size, lymph node dissection and pathological type), postoperative complications, ICU postoperative management and prognosis. The patients were divided into the elderly group (≥ 65 years) and the non-elderly group (< 65 years) according to age.

Determination of the correct water surface height (WSH) from green laser (532 nm) echoes alone in bathymetry LiDAR is challenging, as the green laser return near the water surface involves both specular reflection from the air-water interface and backscattered return from the water volume. In this paper, a low-complexity method based on linear approximation of the leading edge (LLE) is proposed. The results of this LLE method were compared with those of three common algorithms of peak detection, half peak power, and surface-volume-bottom implemented on airborne datasets with various surface roughness conditions.

Water shortage poses a great challenge to the health of population and environment and impedes socio-economic development. Therefore, a comprehensive model is necessary to promote the adaptation of the whole socio-economic system to limited water resources. To achieve it, a sustainable conjunctive water management model (SCWM) was developed.

Substantial anthropogenic emissions have resulted in serious environmental problems in China. Direct emissions and demand-pulled emissions along the supply chains have been extensively investigated. However, understanding the mechanism of how the sectoral emission is transferred through production activities along the sale chains at different production layers remains a challenge.

Background: Radical resection for hilar cholangiocarcinoma is considered one of the most complicated abdominal operations. We report our initial experience with robotic radical resection for hilar cholangiocarcinoma.

Methods: Between March 2017 and February 2019, the perioperative outcomes of 48 patients were analysed.

Food and water are inextricably linked. With the increase of water consumption in irrigation and food growth, water shortage has become an urgent issue. Irrational cross-regional transfer of water embodied in food exacerbates water scarcity and restrict China's sustainable development.

When considering a region as a superorganism, there are various processes of metabolism that reflect the growth and maintenances of the system, as well as the interactions with the surroundings. Ecological Network Analysis combined with the input-output model is utilized to analyze the water consumption structure and the interaction control relationships among different sectors within the urban ecosystem. The integrated approach is applied to the case study of Guangdong Province, China.
