Biopolymers-based food packaging materials have drawn attention as potential candidates for substitution of petroleum-based materials. In this study, composite alginate films were developed by incorporating Zn-based antimicrobials to overcome the intrinsic disadvantages of alginates that hinder their wide applications. Antimicrobials with different morphologies (nanoplatelets, nanorods, and nanospheres) were employed to investigate the effects of antimicrobials' morphology on antibacterial, thermal, mechanical, and barrier performance of composite alginate films.

Objective: Currently, only a few studies have been conducted on the mental status recovery in elderly aortic stenosis (AS) patients after treatment. How transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) differentially impinge on the mental status of elderly AS patients is completely unknown. The present prospective study aims to investigate this question by comparing the post-treatment levels of depression and anxiety, quality of life and frailty.

Insufficient invasion of trophoblast cells is one of the important causes of preeclampsia (PE). Circular RNA (circRNA) has been proven to regulate the biological functions of trophoblast cells and mediate the progression of PE. The expression of circ_0085296, microRNA (miR)-942-5p, and thrombospondin 2 (THBS2) was detected by quantitative real-time PCR.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effects of gluteal muscle contracture (GMC) on the alignment of the spine and pelvis, as well as the potential link to low back pain (LBP).
  • A comparative analysis was done on radiological data from 100 GMC patients and 100 asymptomatic volunteers to assess various spinal alignment parameters.
  • Results indicated that GMC patients had significantly lower pelvic incidence and lumbar lordosis values compared to the control group, but no notable differences in sagittal vertical axis and pelvic tilt, suggesting GMC may influence spinal alignment and contribute to LBP development.

Left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP) is a recently proposed method for conduction system pacing. We performed a meta-analysis of controlled studies to compare the clinical outcome in patients who received LBBAP vs. biventricular pacing (BVP) for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
