Article Synopsis
  • Monitoring biochemical changes during pregnancy is crucial for the health of both mothers and babies, enabling early intervention for potential issues.
  • A genetic analysis of over 20,000 Chinese women identified 410 trait-locus associations related to pregnancy, with many being newly discovered associations.
  • The research highlighted important biological pathways involved in pregnancy, such as hormone regulation and immune response, furthering our understanding of how genetics influence pregnancy outcomes and maternal health.

Glycemic traits are critical indicators of maternal and fetal health during pregnancy. We performed genetic analysis for five glycemic traits in 14,744 Chinese pregnant women. Our genome-wide association study identified 25 locus-trait associations, including established links between gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and the genes CDKAL1 and MTNR1B.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects lung function in children by analyzing the relationship between maternal glucose levels during pregnancy and offspring lung performance using data from 889 six-year-olds.
  • - Findings revealed that children exposed to maternal GDM exhibited significantly lower lung function scores, particularly in girls, with a higher risk of poor lung capacity.
  • - The research indicates that maternal glycemia, especially post-OGTT glucose levels, is negatively linked to children's lung function, highlighting the need for further exploration into the mechanisms behind this impact and possible interventions.

Background: Recent years have seen an increase in school refusal behavior among adolescents, potentially due to factors like excessive short-form video viewing, bullying, and school anxiety. Limited research has investigated how these factors contribute to school refusal behavior. This study used random forest regression, path analysis, and network analysis to identify key variables and pathways leading to school refusal behavior.

Background: Limited evidence exists regarding the association between gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and elevated levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in newborns. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the potential risk of elevated TSH levels in infants exposed to maternal GDM, considering the type and number of abnormal values obtained from the 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

Methods: A population-based, prospective birth cohort study was conducted in Wuhan, China.

: Protein powder has attracted attention due to its possible adverse effects. We aimed to investigate the association of protein powder supplementation in early pregnancy with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk. : We included 6897 participants with singleton pregnancies from a prospective birth cohort.

Thyroid hormones are essential for fetal growth and neurodevelopment. The recent frequent use of parabens has raised concerns about their endocrine-disrupting potential. However, the effects of maternal paraben exposure on neonatal thyroid hormone levels are still largely unknown.

Missed abortion, one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal mortality, is associated with impaired trophoblast function. Opa interacting protein 5 (OIP5) interacts with outer membrane proteins, Opa, to play an important role in mitosis and tumorigenesis. The role of OIP5 in missed abortion was investigated in this study.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a gynecologic disorder with unsatisfactory treatment options. Hyperandrogenism and insulin resistance (IR) are two symptoms of PCOS. The majority of PCOS patients (approximately 50% to 70%) have IR and moderate diffuse inflammation of varying degrees.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the most common female endocrine disease that causes anovulatory infertility, still lacks promising strategy for the accurate diagnosis and effective therapeutics of PCOS attributed to its unclear aetiology. In this study, we determined the abnormal reduction in circPSMC3 expression by comparing the ovarian tissue samples of PCOS patients and normal individuals. The symptom relief caused by up-regulation of circPSMC3 in PCOS model mice suggested the potential for further study.
