Background: The guidelines presented herein provide recommendations for the management of patients with lateral epicondylitis of the humerus. These recommendations are endorsed by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) and Japan Elbow Society.

Methods: The JOA lateral epicondylitis guideline committee revised the previous guidelines on the basis of the "Medical Information Network Distribution Service Handbook for Clinical Practice Guideline Development 2014", which emphasized the importance of the balance between benefit and harm, and proposed a desirable method for preparing clinical guidelines in Japan.

Avulsion fractures of the calcaneus are relatively uncommon and are seen most frequently in elderly or osteoporotic patients. A surgical method that avoids displacement of the avulsed fragment after fixation has not been developed. We report the cases of 3 patients (a 73-year-old male, an 85-year-old male, and an 81-year-old female) treated by open reduction and internal fixation using titanium wire and cannulated cancellous screws.

Medial condyle fractures of the humerus are rare in any age group. We report a unique case of a humeral medial condyle fracture in a 15-year-old boy with posttraumatic fishtail deformity. Osteochondritis dissecans of the elbow primarily involves the capitellum. We report a rare case of osteochondritis dissecans involving the humeral trochlea in a 19-year-old male with a post-traumatic cubitus varus deformity. Biomechanics suggested that the varus malalignment caused repetitive axial force across the medial elbow, which led to microtrauma to the trochlea during the patient's daily work.

To examine the antiadhesive effect of an alginate solution following tendon surgery, unilateral subtotal laceration of the flexor digitorum communis tendon was created in one hind limb while the other side was left intact in 32 Japanese white rabbits. The lesion was coated with alginate solution in 16 animals and not coated in the other 16. Degree of adhesion formation was assessed histologically and biomechanically by measuring the flexion angle of the first toe when the flexor digitorum tendon was pulled with a specified force at 4 weeks postoperatively.
