Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) clinical practice guidelines on the management of lateral epicondylitis of the humerus - Secondary publication.

Background: The guidelines presented herein provide recommendations for the management of patients with lateral epicondylitis of the humerus. These recommendations are endorsed by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) and Japan Elbow Society.

Methods: The JOA lateral epicondylitis guideline committee revised the previous guidelines on the basis of the "Medical Information Network Distribution Service Handbook for Clinical Practice Guideline Development 2014", which emphasized the importance of the balance between benefit and harm, and proposed a desirable method for preparing clinical guidelines in Japan.

Parallel plate fixation for distal humeral fracture: Computer simulation to determine the appropriate screw insertion sequence.

Background: Parallel plate fixation for distal humeral fractures provides good clinical outcomes. However, few studies have investigated the insertion sequence of the distal screws, although long screw insertion into the distal fragment is technically demanding. The purpose of this study was to investigate a correlation between the insertion sequence of the distal screws and the screw insertion difficulty.

Surgical technique in tension band wiring method for selected comminuted olecranon fractures.

Background: The use of tension band wiring (TBW) for comminuted olecranon fractures is less recommendable these days. However, some experts preferentially apply TBW to comminuted fractures resulting in favorable outcomes. We here present the surgical technique using TBW with eyelet and absorbable pins for selected comminuted olecranon fractures and review the clinical and radiographic outcomes.

Two-Staged Reconstruction for Symptomatic Humeral Medial Epicondyle Nonunion in Children: A Case Report.

Few cases of humeral medial epicondyle nonunion develop to symptomatic condition. We report a pediatric case of distally displaced nonunion. At first, the palliative repair surgery was chosen due to irreduciblity of the epicondyle fragment at 10 years old.

Surgical Treatment of Calcaneal Avulsion Fracture in Elderly Patients Using Cannulated Cancellous Screws and Titanium Wire.

Avulsion fractures of the calcaneus are relatively uncommon and are seen most frequently in elderly or osteoporotic patients. A surgical method that avoids displacement of the avulsed fragment after fixation has not been developed. We report the cases of 3 patients (a 73-year-old male, an 85-year-old male, and an 81-year-old female) treated by open reduction and internal fixation using titanium wire and cannulated cancellous screws.

Medial condyle fracture of the distal humerus in an adolescent with pre-existing fishtail deformity. A case report.

Medial condyle fractures of the humerus are rare in any age group. We report a unique case of a humeral medial condyle fracture in a 15-year-old boy with posttraumatic fishtail deformity. The fracture line extended up from the top of the sharp trochlear wedge to the incomplete medial supracondylar cortical aperture.

Osteochondritis dissecans of the humeral trochlea with cubitus varus deformity. A case report.

Osteochondritis dissecans of the elbow primarily involves the capitellum. We report a rare case of osteochondritis dissecans involving the humeral trochlea in a 19-year-old male with a post-traumatic cubitus varus deformity. Biomechanics suggested that the varus malalignment caused repetitive axial force across the medial elbow, which led to microtrauma to the trochlea during the patient's daily work.

Modulation of peritendinous adhesion formation by alginate solution in a rabbit flexor tendon model.

To examine the antiadhesive effect of an alginate solution following tendon surgery, unilateral subtotal laceration of the flexor digitorum communis tendon was created in one hind limb while the other side was left intact in 32 Japanese white rabbits. The lesion was coated with alginate solution in 16 animals and not coated in the other 16. Degree of adhesion formation was assessed histologically and biomechanically by measuring the flexion angle of the first toe when the flexor digitorum tendon was pulled with a specified force at 4 weeks postoperatively.
