This article addresses the potential use of secondary polymer fibres in the field of structural concrete as a replacement for primary polymer fibres (mainly polypropylene/PP/), which are used in concrete to enhance its resistance when exposed to high temperatures (especially in the case of fire). Research has shown that, in addition to PP fibres, polyethylene terephthalate/PET/fibres, produced by recycling packaging materials (mainly PET bottles), can also be used as an alternative. These fibres are industrially produced in similar dimensions as PP fibres and exhibit similar behaviour when added to fresh and hardened concrete.

Pervious concrete (PCO) has many advantages and applications, such as water pooling reduction, noise attenuation, replenishment of groundwater reserves, etc. However, the use of pervious concrete is limited due to its low compressive strength and durability, especially as a result of portlandite leaching from concrete exposed to flowing water. The effects of active additives (nano SiO (NS) spent catalyst generated at the fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCCw) and paper sludge waste burned at 700 °C (PSw)) along with particle size distribution of the coarse aggregate on the properties and durability of pervious concrete were determined in the research.

This article analyzes the integrated effect of industrial by-products (spent fluidized bed catalytic cracking catalyst waste (FCCCw) and paper sludge waste (PSw) generated in paper manufacturing) combined with nano-SiO (NS) on the properties of cement binder, when a certain part of the binder is replaced with the said by-products in the cement mix. Standard testing methods were used to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of cement-based materials. For structure analysis, we used X-ray diffraction (XRD), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Background: Early and late operations of the cleft lip represent exposure to general anesthesia during the first year of life. The early exposure to the anesthetics may influence long term neurological outcome. Aim: To assess the impact of a hand hygiene protocol, using hand washing, alcohol hand rub and gloves when caring for preterm infants born after 31 weeks of gestation, on the incidence of neonatal late onset sepsis (LOS).

Methods: All babies delivered between 32 + 0 and 36 + 6 weeks gestation and admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit during a 14-month period were included. We followed a hand hygiene protocol with hand washing and alcohol hand rub (hand rub period) for the first 7 months and a protocol of hand washing, alcohol hand rub and gloves (gloves period) for the second 7 months.

Objective: In the children born with a cleft lip, surgery is the first step in correcting the inborn anomaly. In comparison with usually made 3-month surgery, benefits of the surgery in neonates have been reported: a very good wound healing, feeding facilitation, and good socialization of a child from neonatal age. The aims of the present study were to perform cheiloplasty in early newborns affected by the total cleft lip and palate (CLP) by the technique modified to search for optimum aesthetic result, and to assess the surgery outcome from qualitative and quantitative aspects.
