The study examines the effectiveness of combining traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compounds with levodopa in treating Parkinson's disease (PD) to provide evidence-based guidance for clinical use.
A systematic search of six databases identified 20 high-quality randomized controlled trials, which included 1,784 patients, showing improved outcomes in PD management when TCM was combined with levodopa compared to levodopa alone.
Data mining identified a basic prescription for treating PD that included specific herbs, notably Paeoniae Radix Alba and Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, which were linked to significant improvements in various aspects of the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale.
