Article Synopsis
- Passive smoking is a serious public health concern in China, and little research exists on its link to ischemic stroke.
- A study involving 30,456 never-smokers showed that those exposed to secondhand smoke (SHS) daily had a 21% higher risk of ischemic stroke compared to those exposed less frequently.
- The findings suggest that daily SHS exposure particularly affects women and certain groups, indicating the need for stronger tobacco control measures to protect never-smokers.

Article Synopsis
- A study investigated how spicy food consumption affects the risk of different types of stroke among 50,174 participants aged 30-79 over a median follow-up of 10.7 years.
- Results indicated that those who consumed spicy food regularly had lower risks of experiencing a stroke and specifically ischaemic stroke (IS) compared to those who rarely or never consumed it.
- The relationship showed a U-shaped dose–response, where consuming spicy food 3-5 days a week was linked to the lowest risk of IS, particularly for obese participants.
