Due to the severe consequences of viral infection in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) patients, the routine use of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) screening of viruses is common in clinic, while the sensitivities of molecular methods are not always sufficient for blood samples. We aimed to increase the detection efficiency of viremia in allo-HSCT patients with M1 bead enrichment. Blood samples of allo-HSCT patients with fever were collected.

The microbiological diagnosis of infection for hematological malignancy patients receiving chemotherapy or allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) patients relies primarily on standard microbial culture, especially blood culture, which has many shortcomings, such as having low positive rates, being time-consuming and having a limited pathogenic spectrum. In this prospective observational self-controlled test accuracy study, blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples were collected from chemotherapy or allo-HSCT patients with clinical symptoms of infections who were hospitalized at Peking University First Hospital. Possible pathogens were detected by the method based on recombinant mannan-binding lectin (MBL) magnetic bead enrichment (M1 method) and simultaneously by a standard method.

Molecular diagnostic methods, such as real-time PCR without blood culture, would be more time-saving and suitable for pathogenic diagnosis of sepsis, while their sensitivities have always been unsatisfactory for the usually low concentration of pathogens in the blood of sepsis patients. In this study, we established a fast diagnostic method using magnetic beads coated with human recombined mannose-binding lectin that makes it possible to concentrate pathogens from human plasma that have low concentrations of pathogens.

Using the nucleic acid sequence of a SARS-CoV-2 nonvariant and a synthetic SARS-CoV-2 variant-carrying plasmid, a matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) method based on the single-base mass probe extension of multiplex PCR amplification products was established to detect 9 mutation types in 7 mutated sites (HV6970del, N501Y, K417N, P681H, D614G, E484K, L452R, E484Q, and P681R) in the receptor-binding domain of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 variants. Twenty-one respiratory tract pathogens (9 bacteria and 12 respiratory viruses) and nucleic acid samples from non-COVID-19 patients were selected for specific validation.

Objective: To investigate the expression of serum miR-155 in children with pneumonia (MPP).
Methods: A total of 100 children at our hospital with pneumonia caused by infection were enrolled as a study group, including 45 cases in the acute phase (acute phase group) and 55 in the recovery phase (recovery phase group). An additional 30 healthy children were enrolled during the same period as the control group.

is the predominant antibiotic-associated enteropathogen associated with diarrhoea or pseudomembranous colitis in patients worldwide. Previously, we identified RT078 isolates (CD21062) from elderly patients in China, including two new ribotype strains (CD10010 and CD12038) belonging to the ST11 group, and their genomic features were also investigated. This study compared sporulation, spore germination, toxin expression, flagellar characteristics, and adhesion among these strains in vitro and analysed their pathogenic ability in vivo using animal models.
