Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of adult disability and death worldwide. The primary treatment for cerebral ischemia patients is to restore blood supply to the ischemic region as quickly as possible. However, in most cases, more severe tissue damage occurs, which is known as cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury.

Flos (LJF) is commonly used in Chinese herbal medicines and exhibits anti-viral, anti-oxidative, and anti-inflammatory properties. The reciprocal relationship between sleep, the immune system and the central nervous system is well-established in the animal models. In this study, we used the mouse model to analyze the beneficial effects of the LJF on the dysregulated sleep-wakefulness cycle in response to acute sleep deprivation and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation and the potential underlying mechanisms.

Metallic three-dimensional lattice structures exhibit many favorable mechanical properties including high specific strength, high mechanical efficiency and superior energy absorption capability, being prospective in a variety of engineering fields such as light aerospace and transportation structures as well as impact protection apparatus. In order to further compare the mechanical properties and better understand the energy absorption characteristics of metal lattice structures, enhanced pyramidal lattice structures of three strut materials was prepared by 3D printing combined with investment casting and direct metal additive manufacturing. The compressive behavior and energy absorption property are theoretically analyzed by finite element simulation and verified by experiments.

Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (LJF) has historically been widely utilized as a tea and health food. To better understand and evaluate its quality evaluate its quality, a near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) method was developed for the rapid and simultaneous analysis of the 3 main active components (chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid A and isochlorogenic acid C). The NIRS model was built using 2 different strategies: partial least squares (PLS) as a linear regression method and artificial neural networks (ANN) as a nonlinear regression method.

This study was firstly to study the relationship of "ingredient-target-pathway" and the pharmacological effects of for the treatment of diabetes. Based on a network pharmacology method, 138 active ingredients of were screened from the relative literatures, and their targets were confirmed by comparing these with the hypoglycemic targets in the DrugBank database. Results showed that contained 25 hypoglycemic ingredients, such as rabdoternin A, rabdoternin B, and epinodosinol.

In this study, a puerarin-loaded ultrasound sulfur hexafluoride microbubble contrast agent as a sonodynamic therapy (SDT) was developed to improve targeted drug delivery and pharmacodynamic effects in diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) treatment. Fluorescence microscope morphology was applied to confirm the fabrication of the puerarin - microbubbles (PMBs). The average size distribution and zeta potential of PMBs were 760.

The purpose of this study was developing a novel hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose-co-polyacrylamide-co-methacrylic acid (HPMC-co-PAM-co-PMAA) hydrogel, which was used as rectal suppository to regulate the blood glucose of diabetes. HPMC-co-PAM-co-PMAA hydrogel was fabricated via free-radical polymerization. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Raman spectra were used to confirm the fabrication of HPMC-co-PAM-co-PMAA hydrogel.

In this study, a novel chitosan (CS)-modified nanoparticles (NPs) were developed to orally deliver tolbutamide (TOL). Methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)- b-poly(ε-caprolactone) carboxylates (mPEG-b-PCL) was synthesized via an esterification reaction. CS-modified mPEG-b-PCL-COOH NPs (CS@NPs) were fabricated by injecting mPEG-b-PCL-COOH NPs suspension (1.

Rhubarb (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) is a classic herbal laxative medicine in Europe and a very famous natural medicine in Asia, especially in China. In this study, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was first used for rapid and simultaneous analysis of five main active components (chrysophanol, aloe-emodin, rhein, emodin and physcion) in rhubarb of 6 geographical origins, processing and spurious samples. A total of 124 samples (73 raw, 40 processed and 11 spurious samples) were collected.

Motivated by the wide use of Scutellariae Radix (SR) in the food and pharmaceutical industries, a rapid and non-destructive near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) method was developed for the simultaneous analysis of three main active components in raw SR and SR processed by stir-frying with wine. From seven geographical areas, 58 samples were collected. The reference contents for the SR components baicalin, baicalein, and wogonin were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography.

In this study, the copolymer of methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate-co-poly(methylacrylic acid) [poly(mPEGMA-co-MAA)] was synthesized via radical polymerization. Based on this copolymer, novel chitosan-modified poly(mPEGMA-co-MAA) nanoparticles (CS/NPs) were developed to improve the bio-availability of ibuprofen (IBU). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and H nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR) spectra were used to confirm the synthesis of the copolymers.

Unlabelled: Huaiju is one of the most famous and widely used Flos Chrysanthemi (FC) for medicinal purposes in China. Although various investigations aimed at phenolics extraction from other FC have been reported, a thorough optimization of the phenolics extraction conditions from Huaiju has not been achieved. This work applied the widely used response surface methodology (RSM) to investigate the effects of 3 independent variables including ethanol concentration (%), extraction time (min), and solvent-to-material ratio (mL/g) on the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of phenolics from FC.

Article Synopsis
  • Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) was employed to simultaneously measure 5 active alkaloids in different parts of Coptidis Rhizoma using HPLC as a calibration reference.
  • Two modeling methods, partial least-squares (PLS) and artificial neural networks (ANN), were compared, with ANN being more effective for certain alkaloids and PLS better for others.
  • The study highlighted NIRS as a reliable and efficient technique for quick analysis and quality assessment of traditional Chinese medicine.

This research was to develop a method for noninvasive and fast blood glucose assay in vivo. Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, a more promising technique compared to other methods, was investigated in rats with diabetes and normal rats. Calibration models are generated by two different multivariate strategies: partial least squares (PLS) as linear regression method and artificial neural networks (ANN) as non-linear regression method.

Raman spectroscopy with the help of sophisticated data analysis techniques based on multivariate analysis have made it possible to study the full information of Raman spectra and to draw conclusions about the chemical structure and composition of very complex systems. As Raman spectroscopy has the advantage to provide rich information of the sample, so it was first included in Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010) as “Annex XIX L Guidelines of Raman spectroscopy”. However the validation method for multicomponent quantitative analysis of Raman spectroscopy was not discussed in this pharmacopoeia.
