Human activities have increased the possibility of simultaneous warming and drought, which will lead to different carbon (C) allocation and water use strategies in plants. However, there is no conclusive information from previous studies. To explore C and water balance strategies of plants in response to warming and drought, we designed a 4-year experiment that included control (CT), warming (W, with a 5°C increase in temperature), drought (D, with a 50% decrease in precipitation), and warming and drought conditions (WD) to investigate the non-structural carbohydrate (NSC), C and nitrogen (N) stoichiometry, and intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE) of leaves, roots, and litter of , a major tree species in southern China.

Background: Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a simple and reliable surrogate marker of insulin resistance. Elevated TyG index was related to stroke recurrence. This study aimed to explore the associations between TyG index with ischemic stroke recurrence in nondiabetic patients with small vessel occlusion.

Isochrysis galbana is considered an ideal bait for functional foods and nutraceuticals of humans because of its high fucoxanthin (Fx) content. However, multi-omics analysis of the regulatory networks for Fx biosynthesis in I. galbana has not been reported.

, a well-known nutrient and beverage plant, is under development for use in functional health care products best and natural and organic foods. We hypothesis that the composition and metabolic accumulation of hypoglycemic nutrient metabolites exhibit significant differences depending on harvest time. Therefore, it is of great significance to establish the best harvest time for leaves for the further development of healthy teas and other products.

Background: Pontine infarction is the major subtype of posterior circulation stroke, and diabetes is more common in pontine infarction patients than in anterior circulation stroke patients. Whether the prevalence of diabetes remains homogenous within the posterior circulation stroke population is unclear. The present study is aimed at investigating the prevalence of diabetes in pontine infarction and comparing it to other subtypes of posterior circulation stroke.

Salvia bowleyana is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant that is a source of nutritional supplements rich in salvianolic acid B and a potential experimental system for the exploration of salvianolic acid B biosynthesis in the Labiatae. Here, we report a high-quality chromosome-scale genome assembly of S. bowleyana covering 462.

Article Synopsis
  • The Podostemaceae family consists of unique aquatic plants that thrive in clean river environments and face a high risk of extinction due to habitat loss.
  • Researchers presented a high-quality genome assembly of these plants, revealing an 827.92 Mb genome with 27,370 protein-coding genes and significant repetitive sequences.
  • The study also found that these plants underwent a genome duplication event and highlighted specific genes linked to shoot development and stress responses, contributing to our understanding of their evolutionary biology and ecological adaptation.

We explored the rapid qualitative analysis of wheat cultivars with good lodging resistances by Fourier transform infrared resonance (FTIR) spectroscopy and multivariate statistical analysis. FTIR imaging showing that wheat stem cell walls were mainly composed of cellulose, pectin, protein, and lignin. Principal components analysis (PCA) was used to eliminate multicollinearity among multiple peak absorptions.

Background And Aims: Leymus chinensis is an economically and ecologically important grass that is widely distributed across eastern areas of the Eurasian steppe. A major problem facing its propagation by man is its low sexual reproductivity. The causes of low fecundity are uncertain, largely because many aspects of the reproductive biology of this species remained unknown or incomplete.

By using cell wall degrading enzymes, Casparian strips were for the first time isolated from Pinus bungeana needle endodermis. They appeared as a fine network, similar to those isolated from roots. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic analysis provided evidence that the Casparian strips were impregnated with lignin, suberin, cellulose and cell wall proteins.
