With the worsening indoor air quality in developing countries, more and more attention is being paid to indoor air pollution, especially formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from indoor building materials. A series of methods, such as the C-history method, have been proposed to determine the mechanistic parameters of formaldehyde and other VOC emissions. However, these methods require a relatively long test duration (at least 3 days) and may yield a multi-solution problem for these parameters.

The transportation environment of smart cities is complex and ever-changing, and traffic flow is influenced by various factors. With the increase of traffic flow in smart cities, optimizing traffic intersection signal control has become an important method to improve traffic efficiency and reduce congestion. To this end, a smart city traffic intersection(SCTI) signal control optimization method based on adaptive artificial fish swarm algorithm was studied.

Aims: The prediction of outcomes in convulsive status epilepticus (CSE) remains a constant challenge. The Encephalitis-Nonconvulsive Status Epilepticus-Diazepam Resistance-Image Abnormalities-Tracheal Intubation (END-IT) score was a useful tool for predicting the functional outcomes of CSE patients, excluding cerebral hypoxia patients. With further understanding of CSE, and in view of the deficiencies of END-IT itself, we consider it necessary to modify the prediction tool.

Background: Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is a type of autoimmune encephalitis. The underlying mechanism(s) remain largely unknown. Recent evidence has indicated that the gut microbiome may be involved in neurological immune diseases via the "gut-brain axis".

Cerebrovascular events, especially ischemic stroke, are common complications of essential thrombocythemia (ET). Compared to JAK2V617 F mutation, CALR mutation is considered as a lower risk factor of thrombosis in ET. Until now stroke in ET with CALR mutation has rarely been reported.

The sulfonylurea receptor 1-transient receptor potential melastatin 4 (SUR1-TRPM4) channel is a target key mediator of brain edema. Sulfonylureas (SFUs) are blockers of the SUR1-TRPM4 channel. We made two assessments for the pretreatment of SFUs: (1) whether it associates with lower perihematomal edema (PHE) and (2) whether it associates with improved clinical outcomes in diabetic patients who have acute basal ganglia hemorrhage.

Previous studies have shown that affects rumen fermentation and rumen microbial community structure, which are limited to detect a few microbial abundances using traditional methods. However, the regulation of on rumen microorganisms and the mechanisms of microbiota that affect rumen fermentation is still unclear. This study explored the effects of live and autoclaved on ruminal microbial composition and diversity in vitro using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and the underlying mechanisms.

Zinc is considered to be an anti-diarrheal agent, and it may therefore reduce the incidence of diarrhea in young calves. In the present study, we aimed to compare the effect of zinc source on growth performance, the incidence of diarrhea, tissue zinc accumulation, the expression of zinc transporters, and the serum concentrations of zinc-dependent proteins in neonatal Holstein dairy calves. Eighteen male newborn Holstein dairy calves were fed milk and starter diet supplemented with or without 80 mg zinc/d in the form of Zn-Met or ZnO for 14 days, and were then euthanized.

In-depth studies have identified many hormones important for controlling mammary growth and maintaining lactation. One of these is melatonin, which is synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland to regulate circadian rhythms, improve antioxidant capacity, and enhance immunity. Prolactin is secreted by the pituitary gland and is associated with the growth and development of mammary glands as well as initiation and maintenance of lactation.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are molecular chaperones involved in a variety of life activities. HSPs function in the refolding of misfolded proteins, thereby contributing to the maintenance of cellular homeostasis. Heat shock factor (HSF) is activated in response to environmental stresses and binds to heat shock elements (HSEs), promoting HSP translation and thus the production of high levels of HSPs to prevent damage to the organism.

Objective: Translocase of outer mitochondrial membrane 40 (TOMM40) encodes translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane (TOM), which is associated with mitochondrial dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease (AD). TOMM40 rs157581-G has been reported to increase susceptibility to AD. However, the effect of TOMM40 rs157581-G in resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) on AD has not been studied.

Milk is the basic food for infants and newborn animals, providing a rich source of proteins, carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins. Milk also provides nourishment for people of all ages due to its abundant nutrients, and it is used in the manufacture of numerous health-related products. Milk contains caseins and whey proteins as the two major protein classes.

Lactoferrin (lactotransferrin; Lf) is an iron-binding glycoprotein and one of the most important bioactivators in milk and other external secretions. It has numerous biological roles, including the regulation of iron absorption and modulation of immune responses, and has anti-microbial, anti-viral, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory activities. Lf regulates the quantity of iron absorbed in the intestine via its role in iron transport and can also chelate iron, directly or indirectly.

Background: Anticoagulation therapy has been recommended by major guidelines to reduce the risk of recurrent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation-associated ischemic stroke (AFAIS). However, in real-world clinical practice, oral anticoagulants with either vitamin K antagonists or nonvitamin K antagonists are often underused for these patients. Here, we sought to investigate the current status of oral anticoagulant use in patients with AFAIS in northwestern China.

CHCHD10 gene has been identified to be associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Considering the clinical phenotype and pathology characterization were overlapped between FTD and Alzheimer disease (AD), and so far, no systematic analysis of CHCHD10 mutation was conducted in patients with AD in Asian population. Therefore, we screened of all exons in CHCHD10 in a cohort of 484 AD patients (60 with family history) from Mainland China.

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a clinically heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorder, including behavior behavioral variant FTD (bvFTD), semantic dementia, progressive nonfluent aphasia (PNFA), FTD-parkinsonism, and FTD-motor neuron disease. To date, there are at least 8 causative genes identified in patients with FTD. Among them, variants in the microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT), GRN, and chromosome 9 open-reading frame 72 (C9orf72) genes are considered the major cause of FTD.
