Human activities in the last century have intensified global nitrogen deposition, resulting in the degradation of ecosystem function and loss of biodiversity worldwide. Nitrogen addition is a crucial method for examining the effects of atmospheric nitrogen deposition on species composition and structure of soil microbiome and biotic community, as exogenous nitrogen inputs can trigger cascading effects on ecosystem functions. In a 6-year experiment, we evaluated the impact of nitrogen addition on soil microbial-plant-insect systems in desert steppes.

The push-off angle is an important factor affecting speed-skating performance. However, quantitative evidence for the relationship between the push-off angle and foot injury is incomplete. This study aimed to establish a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model (FEM) and investigate the mechanical responses of foot structures to stress and strain to explore the relationship between injury and movement.

Background: SPINK4 was highly expressed in colorectal cancer and resulted in worse prognosis of colorectal cancer patients. However, the expression and function of SPINK4 in colon cancer have not been revealed.

Methods: Analysis from GEPIA website showed the expression and function of SPINK4 in colon cancer samples.

Article Synopsis
  • Long-term stress on the plantar fascia (PF) is primarily caused by factors like midsole hardness (MH) in running shoes, leading to conditions like plantar fasciitis.
  • A finite-element (FE) model of the foot-shoe was created using ANSYS to investigate how different MH levels affect PF stress and strain during running.
  • Results showed that increasing MH decreased PF stress and strain, but also led to greater peak pressure on the outsole and altered foot biomechanics, indicating a trade-off for the benefits in PF relief.

Deck structures subjected to drop-weight low-velocity impact are critical safety elements for ships and offshore structures. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to propose experimental research on dynamic responses of deck structures composed of stiffened plates subjected to drop-weight impact of a wedge impactor. The first step was to fabricate a conventional stiffened plate specimen and a strengthened stiffened plate specimen, as well as a drop-weight impact tower.

The effect of Nb-content and heat input rate on the mechanical properties and microstructure of simulated coarse-grained heat-affected zone (CGHAZ) of high-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) was investigated. While using a low heat input (20 kJ/cm), the toughness of simulated CGHAZ was improved by increasing the Nb-content. The maximum toughness was obtained when the Nb-content was 0.

The complete mitochondrial genome of was characterized for the first time. The total length of the mitogenome was 16,336 bp including a standard set of 13 protein-coding (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA), and 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. The overall nucleotides base composition of the heavy strand is A (26.

Article Synopsis
  • The complete mitochondrial genome of Pholis nebulosus has been sequenced, revealing it to be 16,524 base pairs long and circular in structure.
  • This genome includes 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and 2 non-coding regions, which is consistent with typical bony fish mitogenomes.
  • The study also identifies specific elements within the control region, such as the termination-associated sequence domain (TAS) and several conserved sequence blocks (CSBs).
