BiOCl-based materials have emerged as promising photocatalysts for converting CO into valuable products and fuels. However, challenges such as low light absorption and inefficient charge carrier separation require effective solutions, with vacancy engineering offering a promising approach. Current research primarily focuses on anion vacancies, leaving cation vacancies less explored.

A biomass-based catalyst, CuO@CS-400, was employed as an excellent recyclable heterogeneous catalyst to realize the sulfonylation reaction of aniline derivatives with sodium sulfinates. Various substrates were compatible, giving the desired products moderate to good yields at room temperature. In addition, this heterogeneous copper catalyst was also easy to recover and was recyclable up to five times without considerably deteriorating in catalytic efficiency.

Article Synopsis
  • * A nitrate reactive transport model (SWAT-MODFLOW-RT3D) was developed to study interactions between surface and groundwater, revealing a 20.17% decline in groundwater recharge to surface water and a 16.05% decrease in nitrate loads during this period.
  • * Nitrate concentrations are highest in agricultural and residential areas, particularly during intense rainfall and crop seasons, with nitrogen transformation processes like nitrification and ammonification contributing to fluctuating nitrate levels.

Effective characterization of dense non-aqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) source zones is crucial for remediating polluted sites. DNAPL often reside as residuals or pools within high-permeability lenses and above impermeable layers due to soil heterogeneity, gravity, and capillary barriers. Given the high cost of drilling, electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) techniques-including surface ERT and cross-borehole ERT, are commonly used for DNAPL source zone mapping and monitoring.

Background: Donor human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-specific antibodies (DSA) and non-HLA antibodies can cause allograft injury, possibly leading to chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) after lung transplantation. It remains unclear whether these antibodies are produced locally in the graft or derived solely from circulation. We hypothesized that DSA and non-HLA antibodies are produced in CLAD lungs.

This report meticulously examines a complex case involving a vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) and hydronephrosis following radiation treatment for stage IV cervical cancer. It highlights the challenges and nuanced treatment strategies essential for addressing such complications, particularly given the patient's comprehensive medical background, including her cancer treatment and subsequent radiation therapy. Through an in-depth case study, the report details the diagnostic process, emphasizing the role of advanced imaging techniques and clinical evaluations in detecting a VVF along with hydronephrosis - illustrating the delayed adverse effects of radiation therapy.

The mobilization and redistribution of organic contaminants in groundwater is the basis and key to explore its dynamic evolution and appropriate remediation. The naturally occurring diametrical temperature gradient during freezing and thawing cycle leads to distinct behaviors of organic contaminants in groundwater. In this study, the pore-scale distribution of diesel oil in the porous media was quantitatively divided into capillary fluid state (CFS) and free fluid state (FFS) based on multiphase flow dynamics, employing low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) technology.

The incidence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is continuously rising, evolving into a global health challenge. Concurrently, cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) associated with MASLD are also on the increase. Although traditional risk factors such as age, gender, and metabolic factors play significant roles in the development of HCC, it cannot be overlooked that MASLD, triggered by changes in modern lifestyle and dietary habits, may also exacerbate the risk of HCC, and this phenomenon is common even among non-obese individuals.

Developing an environmentally friendly soy protein-based film that offers excellent performance has garnered considerable interest while also posing a significant challenge. Herein, we propose the strategy of covalent and noncovalent cross-linking to improve the mechanical properties of the films. First, chemical denaturation was carried out under the combined action of sodium sulfite, sodium dodecyl sulfate, sodium hydroxide, and urea to reshape the structure of the protein to improve the solubility of protein and release active groups.

Organic-contaminated shallow aquifers have become a global concern of groundwater contamination, yet little is known about the coupled effects of hydrodynamic-thermal-chemical-microbial (HTCM) multi-field on organic contaminant transport and transformation over a short time in aquifers. Therefore, this study proposed a quick and efficient field experimental method for the transport-transformation of contaminants under multi-field coupling to explore the relationship between organic contaminants (total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), benzene-toluene-ethylbenzene-xylene (BTEX) and phthalates acid esters (PAEs)) and multi-field factors. The results showed that hydrodynamics (affecting pH, p < 0.

Organic contaminated sites have gained significant attention as a prominent contributor to shallow groundwater contamination. However, limited knowledge exists regarding the impact of hydrodynamic effects on microbially mediated contaminant degradation at such sites. In this study, we investigated the distribution characteristics and community structure of prokaryotic microorganisms at the selected site during both wet and dry seasons, with a particular focus on their environmental adaptations.

The practical application of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) is limited by serious side reactions, such as the hydrogen evolution reaction and Zn dendrite growth. Here, the study proposes a novel adoption of a biodegradable electrolyte additive, γ-Valerolactone (GVL), with only 1 vol.% addition (GVL-to-HO volume ratio) to enable a stable Zn metal anode.

A new method relying on machine learning and resistivity to predict concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon pollution in soil was proposed as a means of investigation and monitoring. Currently, determining pollutant concentrations in soil is primarily achieved through costly sampling and testing of numerous borehole samples, which carries the risk of further contamination by penetrating the aquifer. Additionally, conventional petroleum hydrocarbon geophysical surveys struggle to establish a correlation between survey results and pollutant concentration.

However, the volatilization behavior of petroleum products exposed to freeze-thaw cycles is not well understood. In this study, we investigated the volatilization behavior of diesel oil-water-glass bead systems under different freeze-thaw cycles.

Electrokinetic (EK) technology is promising for removing heavy metals from contaminated unsaturated soils. It is crucial to accurately determine the unsaturated electro-osmotic permeability for predicting the efficiency of EK treatment, optimizing treatment strategies, and accurately predicting the distribution of contaminant concentrations. However, the current approach of estimating unsaturated electro-osmotic permeability, which involves measuring effective voltage, drainage volume, and performing exponential fitting, fails to address the issue of uneven voltage gradient distribution during EK treatment.

Background: Studies on the prognostic factors for patients with brain oligo-metastasis treated with fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSRT) usually focus on the size of metastatic tumor and radiation dose. Some inflammatory indicators have predictive value in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with brain metastasis receiving stereotactic radiotherapy. However, the prognostic value of inflammatory indicators in NSCLC patients with brain oligo-metastasis treated with FSRT, and their effect on radiotherapy dose is unknown.
