The development of convenient and highly sensitive methodologies for evaluating drug levels in serum is crucial for clinical diagnosis. As the most prescribed drug against hyperthyroidism, methimazole (MMZ) lacks the simple and rapid quantitative method. Herein, an electrochemiluminescent (ECL) sensor is proposed for MMZ detection using an aggregation-induced delayed ECL (AIDECL) active organic nanodots (ODs) as a probe.

Article Synopsis
  • A new high-throughput electrochemiluminescence (ECL) method for detecting iodide ions was developed, utilizing a hydrophobic ruthenium derivative mixed with polymer dots to enhance ECL intensity significantly.
  • The enhanced ECL emitters showed 18 times higher intensity than the original polymer dots and 220 times higher than other coreactant-dependent systems, making them highly effective for measurement.
  • This method achieved a notable detection range of 0.8 nM to 4 μM and is particularly valuable for applications in marine monitoring, nuclear security, and cancer treatment due to its specificity and resistance to radiation.
