Background: Anesthesia and surgery can induce perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND). Mitochondrial dysfunction has been proposed to be one of the earliest triggering events in surgery-induced neuronal damage. Dexmedetomidine has been demonstrated to attenuate the impairment of cognition in aged rats induced by surgery in our previous study.

Article Synopsis
  • Shaogan Fuzi Decoction (SGFD) is a traditional Chinese medicine being studied for its effectiveness in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with existing research lacking conclusive evidence of its benefits and mechanisms.
  • In a rat model of RA induced by collagen and adjuvant, SGFD administration over four weeks led to improvements in arthritis symptoms, reduced inflammation, and decreased serum levels of inflammatory markers.
  • Network pharmacology analysis identified key active components and targets for SGFD, suggesting its therapeutic mechanisms involve multiple signaling pathways related to inflammation and immune response, supported by experimental data showing significant changes in relevant protein expressions.

Confining protein crystallization to a millimetre size was achieved within 0.5 h after stopping 1 h intense trapping laser irradiation, which shows excellent performance in spatial and temporal controllability compared to spontaneous nucleation. A continuous-wave near-infrared laser beam is tightly focused into a glass/solution interfacial layer of a supersaturated buffer solution of hen egg-white lysozyme (HEWL).
