An efficient visible-light-promoted organic-dye-catalyzed radical cascade cyclization was developed for the rapid synthesis of sulfonyl-substituted indolo[2,1-]isoquinolines and benzimidazo[2,1-]isoquinolin-6(5)-ones. Using the economical and environmentally benign Eosin B as the photocatalyst, a wide range of indolo[2,1-]isoquinoline derivatives were obtained in moderate to good yields. Mechanistic studies indicate that a sulfonyl radical pathway is involved in this reaction.

An efficient metal- and additive-free nitro radical-triggered addition/cyclization of 2-aryl--acryloyl indoles/2-arylbenzimidazoles for the synthesis of nitro-substituted indolo[2,1-]isoquinoline and benzimidazo[2,1-]isoquinolin-6(5)-one derivatives has been developed. The commercially available and low-cost -BuONO was used as a nitro reagent. Due to mild reaction conditions, a variety of functional groups could be tolerated to give the corresponding products in moderate to good yields.

Hydroponic production of vegetables is becoming more common, especially in regions with unfavorable climate for year-round crop production. However, if viruses are present in the hydroponics feed water, then there is a chance that infectious viruses will be internalized into the tissues of hydroponically grown vegetables. When this happens, surface sanitization of postharvest vegetables may not be effective because the sanitizer cannot disinfect the internalized viruses.

This study aimed to investigate the expression levels of urothelial carcinoma associated 1 (UCA1) in cancer tissues and plasma of colon cancer patients, and evaluate its clinical significance. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to determine the expression levels of UCA1 in 80 pairs of colon cancer and adjacent normal tissues, plasma samples from 20 healthy controls, 20 colon cancer patients before and after tumor removal. The relationships between UCA1 expression and clinical features and overall survival were analyzed.
