Article Synopsis
  • Chaos lidar is gaining popularity for its excellent spatial resolution and anti-interference features, but current technology limits its effectiveness for long-distance detection due to various hardware constraints.
  • A new system called chaos single-photon (CSP) lidar, using Geiger mode avalanche photodetectors (GM-APDs), has been proposed to enhance detection range by overcoming these hardware limitations.
  • Simulation results show that CSP lidar can detect targets at distances approximately 35 times farther than continuous-wave chaos lidar and 8 times farther than pulsed chaos lidar, while being more efficient in power and storage despite slightly lower accuracy.

With the advent of serial production lidars, single photon lidar faces an increasingly severe threat of crosstalk. In this paper, we first propose the concept of Chaos Single Photon (CSP) lidar and establish the theoretical model. In CSP lidar system, chaos laser replaces pulsed laser, and the physical random sequence generated by a Geiger mode avalanche photodiode (GM-APD) responding to chaos laser substitutes the traditional pseudo-random sequence.
