Background: Cancer-associated fibroblasts are an essential part of the tumor immunoenvironment, playing key roles in malignancy progression and treatment response. This study was to characterize cancer-associated fibroblasts-related genes (CAFs) in colorectal cancer (CRC) and establish signature genes associated with CAF for prognosis prediction.

Methods: We downloaded single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data from the GEO database and bulk RNA-seq data from TCGA database to identify differentially expressed genes related to fibroblasts.

Background: Data from observational and clinical studies indicate an association between skin microbiota and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). However, the causal relationship between skin microbiota and HS remains to be elucidated.

Methods: We obtained data on skin microbiota and HS from summary statistics of genome-wide association studies and applied Mendelian randomization (MR) statistical methods to assess causality.

Background: Limited data are available regarding the risk factors for fistula-in-ano (FIA) in infants and toddlers, potentially affecting their daily lives.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify potential risk factors for FIA in infants and toddlers, in order to implement early preventive interventions, avoid disease progression, and develop therapeutic strategies.

Design And Settings: A retrospective case-control study was conducted, comparing 41 infants and toddlers diagnosed with FIA with 41 healthy controls, between August 2020 and December 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • An anorectal foreign body requires careful evaluation and prompt treatment to prevent serious complications like intestinal perforation.
  • A 54-year-old male accidentally inserted a glass electrode tube into his rectum while trying to treat hemorrhoids; after more than 24 hours, he underwent surgery to remove it using colonoscopy and specialized tools.
  • Post-surgery assessments including a CT scan and colonoscopy showed no residual foreign body or damage, highlighting the importance of timely and appropriate medical intervention in such cases.

This systematic review and meta-analysis of nonrandomized studies (NRSs) aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of two types of surgical interventions (respectively drainage alone and drainage with primary fistula treatment) for perianal abscesses (PAs) in children. Studies from 1992 to July 2022 were searched in 10 electronic databases. All relevant NRSs with available data which compared surgical drainage with or without primary fistula treatment were included.

Background: Necrotizing fasciitis is a fulminant necrotizing soft tissue disease with a high fatality rate. It always starts with impact on the deep fascia rapidly and might result in secondary necrosis of the subcutaneous tissue, fascia, and muscle. Thus, timely and multiple surgical operations are needed for the treatment.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common malignant type of kidney cancer. The present study aims to explore the underlying mechanism and potential targets of the traditional Chinese medicine Bu-Shen-Jian-Pi-Fang (BSJPF) in the treatment of ccRCC based on network pharmacology. After obtaining the complete composition information for BSJPF from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform, we analyzed its chemical composition and molecular targets and then established a pharmacological interaction network.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, recurrent gastrointestinal inflammation that affects millions of people around the world. Loganin, an iridoid glycoside, has shown the anti-inflammatory effects. However, the effect of loganin on IBD and its underlying molecular mechanism are not clear.

BACKGROUND The association between body mass index (BMI) and recurrence of anorectal abscess remains controversial. This study investigated the exact relationship between BMI and anorectal abscess recurrence or anal fistula formation following initial surgery. MATERIAL AND METHODS This was a retrospective registry-based study conducted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou University of Chinese Medicine.

Objectives: To reveal the detailed mechanism underlying the functions of salidroside on the inflammation of intestinal epithelial cells during IBD.

Materials And Methods: Quantitative real-time PCR was employed to assess the expression of IL-6, IL-10, and α-defensins 5 and 6. ELISA assay was performed to measure the secretion of IL-6 and IL-10.

Background: Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and acupuncture are known to mitigate tissue damage. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of combined electroacupuncture (EA) stimulation and BMSC injection in a rat model of anal sphincter injury-induced faecal incontinence (FI).

Methods: 60 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups: sham-operated control, FI, FI+EA, FI+BMSC, and FI+BMSC+EA.

Traditional Chinese surgical treatment "suture-dragging" therapy is based on medical thread therapy and tight seton drainage in combination of minimal invasive surgical principle. It can preserve the integrity of anal sphincter musculature involved in fistulous tract or abscess and maintain anal function. This article not only describes in detail about the operation points and mechanisms of "suture-dragging" therapy of anorectal fistula, but also reviews the application and modification of anorectal disease.

In order to observe the clinical therapeutic effects of Yiqi Kaimi Prescription and biofeedback therapy on treating constipation with deficiency of spleen qi, the 30 cases in the control group were given oral administration of Yiqi Kaimi Prescription, in combination with anus-lifting exercise; the 30 cases in the treatment group were given biofeedback therapy on the basis of the afore mentioned methods for the control group. The TCM symptom scores and anorectal pressures before and after treatment were observed and evaluated. There were significant differences in TCM symptom scores, anorectal pressure, and clinical recovery rate before and after treatment.
