Effective targeting of somatic cancer mutations to enhance the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy requires an individualized approach. Autogene cevumeran is a uridine messenger RNA lipoplex-based individualized neoantigen-specific immunotherapy designed from tumor-specific somatic mutation data obtained from tumor tissue of each individual patient to stimulate T cell responses against up to 20 neoantigens. This ongoing phase 1 study evaluated autogene cevumeran as monotherapy (n = 30) and in combination with atezolizumab (n = 183) in pretreated patients with advanced solid tumors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how tube voltage, radiation dose, and different strength levels of adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASiR-V) affect AI's ability to detect and analyze pulmonary nodules in ultra-low-dose chest CT scans.
  • An anthropomorphic thorax phantom was used, featuring 12 simulated nodules of various sizes and CT values, and scanned using three different ULDCT protocols while analyzing the images with AI software to determine nodule detection rates and measurements.
  • Results showed that increased ASiR-V strength reduced image noise, and while detection rates for nodules were similar between the 70 kV and 100 kV settings, the rates improved significantly for ground-glass nodules at higher doses.

This study reports the findings from using time-domain nuclear magnetic resonance (TD-NMR) to analyze the pore structures of cotton fibers. Cotton fibers, which swell and soften in water, present challenges for conventional pore measurement techniques. TD-NMR overcomes these by measuring the transverse relaxation time (T) of water protons within the fibers, indicative of internal pore sizes.

To address the growing challenge of counterfeit prevention, this study developed a novel anti-counterfeiting ink system based on bacterial cellulose nanocrystals (BCNC) and lanthanide (Er, Yb)‑nitrogen (N) co-dropped graphene quantum dots (GQDs), which exhibited both photoluminescence (PL) and upconversion photoluminescence (UCPL) fluorescent properties as well as excellent rheological characteristics. The Er/Yb/N-GQDs with positive charges were synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method and subsequently assembled with negatively charged BCNC through electrostatic self-assembly to fabricate a novel nanohybrid, Er/Yb/N-GQDs-BCNC. Raman spectroscopy results indicated an enhancement in the graphitization of GQDs due to lanthanide modification.

The identification of compound fault components of a planetary gearbox is especially important for keeping the mechanical equipment working safely. However, the recognition performance of existing deep learning-based methods is limited by insufficient compound fault samples and single label classification principles. To solve the issue, a capsule neural network with an improved feature extractor, named LTSS-BoW-CapsNet, is proposed for the intelligent recognition of compound fault components.

The carrier eccentricity error and gear compound faults are most likely to occur simultaneously in an actual planetary gear train (PGT). Various faults and errors are coupled with each other to generate a complex dynamic response, which makes the diagnosis of PGT faults difficult in practice. In order to analyze the joint effect of the error and the compound faults in a PGT, a carrier eccentricity error model is proposed and incorporated into the TVMS model by considering the time-varying center distance, line of action (LOA), meshing angle, and contact ratio.

BACKGROUND: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with radiotherapy can benefit patients with localized prostate cancer. However, ADT can negatively impact quality of life, and there remain no validated predictive models to guide its use. METHODS: We used digital pathology images from pretreatment prostate tissue and clinical data from 5727 patients enrolled in five phase 3 randomized trials, in which treatment was radiotherapy with or without ADT, as our data source to develop and validate an artificial intelligence (AI)–derived predictive patient-specific model that would determine which patients would develop the primary end point of distant metastasis.

Background: Accurate risk stratification is critical to guide management decisions in localized prostate cancer (PCa). Previously, we had developed and validated a multimodal artificial intelligence (MMAI) model generated from digital histopathology and clinical features. Here, we externally validate this model on men with high-risk or locally advanced PCa treated and followed as part of a phase 3 randomized control trial.

The nasal swell body(NSB) consists of the nasal septal cartilage, nasal bone, and swollen soft tissue, all of which are visible during endoscopic and imaging examinations. Although the function of the NSB remains uncertain, there is evidence to suggest that it plays a vital role in regulating nasal airflow and filtering inhaled air. Based on anatomical and histological evidence, it is hypothesized that the NSB is indispensable in these processes.

Many bacteria can become viable but nonculturable (VBNC) in response to stressors commonly identified in agrifood systems. Campylobacter is able to enter the VBNC state to evade unfavorable environmental conditions, but how food processing can induce Campylobacter jejuni to enter this state and the potential role of foods in inducing the VBNC state in C. jejuni remains largely unknown.

Herein, we employed a developed linear response time dependent density functional theory-based nonadiabatic dynamics simulation method that explicitly takes into account the excitonic effects to investigate photoinduced excitation energy transfer dynamics of a double-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) model with different excitation energies. The E excitation of the outer CNT will generate a local excitation (LE) |out*〉 exciton due to its low energy, which does not induce any charge separation. In contrast, the E excitation of the inner CNT can generate four kinds of excitons with the LE exciton |in*〉 dominates.

Herein, a carbon felt (CF) cathode modified by the acidic oxidised carbon nanotubes (OCNTs) exhibited a high yield of the HO generation in electro-Fenton. Rotating disk electrode (RDE) measurements showed that the selective generation of HO occurred on the CF cathode coated by OCNTs (OCNTs/CF), which was attributed to the high amount of oxygen-containing functional groups in OCNTs. Moreover, the pollutant degradation efficiency could almost reach 100% within 60 min in electro-Fenton with OCNTs/CF as the cathode.

Campylobacter infection is one of the most widespread foodborne gastroenteritis worldwide. As a commensal microbe in the intestinal tracts of food-producing animals, Campylobacter easily enters the food chain and eventually transmits to human hosts through the consumption of contaminated food products. The survival of Campylobacter in food chain remains as a paradox considering its fastidious growth requirement in laboratory settings and ubiquitous presence in unfavorable environment.
