Background: Psychological distress, isolation, feelings of powerlessness, and limited social support are realities faced by temporary migrant live-in caregivers in Canada. Furthermore, they experience multiple barriers in accessing mental health services due to their long work hours, limited knowledge of health resources, precarious employment, and immigration status.
Objective: The Women Empowerment - Caregiver Acceptance & Resilience E-Learning (WE2CARE) project is a pilot intervention research project that aims to promote the mental well-being and resiliency of migrant live-in caregivers.
Metastasis is the primary cause of cancer-related mortality in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. How to improve therapeutic options for patients with metastatic CRC is the core question for CRC treatment. However, the complexity and diversity of stromal context of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in liver metastases of CRC have not been fully understood, and the influence of stromal cells on response to chemotherapy is unclear.

The monosaccharide composition analysis indicated that SP was mainly composed of rhamnose and glucose, while PSP-1 and PSP-2 were composed only of glucose. The composition analysis of PSP-1 and PSP-2 by HPLC, FT-IR, and NMR showed that PSP-1 and PSP-2 were branching dextran, and their structures were (1 → 4)-linked-α-D-Glcp as the main chain, and C-6 replaced the single α-D-Glcp as the linear structure of the branch chain.

The implementation of effective prevention measures requires a better understanding of the risk factors that increase susceptibility. To fill gaps in knowledge, this study reviews the current literature on the effects of heat on kidney-disease outcomes (ICD-10 N00-N39), including morbidity and mortality.

The pattern and mutual communication in cell layers, tissues, and organs play a critical role in tissue homeostasis and regeneration and may contribute to disease occurrence and progression. Tissue engineering aims to repair and regenerate damaged organs, depending on biomimetic scaffolds and advanced fabrication technology.

Identifying the underlying molecular mechanisms of COVID-19 is critical to overcome this pandemic. Metabolites mirror the disease progression of an individual and can provide extensive insights into their pathophysiological significance at each stage of disease.

Therefore, we aimed to use machine learning techniques to develop an efficient preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) radiomics evaluation approach of ALN status and explore the association between radiomics and the tumor microenvironment in patients with early-stage invasive breast cancer.
Methods: in this retrospective multicenter study, three independent cohorts of patients with breast cancer (n = 1,088) were used to develop and validate signatures predictive of ALN status.

Background & Aims: Rapid gastric epithelial progenitor cell (EPC) proliferation and inflammatory response inhibition play key roles in promoting the repair of gastric mucosal damage. However, specific targets inducing these effects are unknown. In this study, we explored the effects of a potential target, Ankyrin repeat domain 22 (ANKRD22).

However, physical stability of co-amorphous systems is mostly investigated under dry conditions, leaving the potential influence of moisture on storage stability unclear. In this study, carvedilol-L-aspartic acid (CAR-ASP) co-amorphous systems at CAR to ASP molar ratios from 3:1 to 1:3 were investigated under non-dry conditions at two temperatures, i.

The herbal formula Xiao-Chai-Hu-Tang (XCHT), that has an anti-depressive efficacy, has been widely utilized in China. However, its anti-cancer effect and underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Unfortunately, the existence of an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (ITM) and the absence of an effective delivery strategy limit its further application. To reverse the ITM and exploit a favorable delivery system for cancer immunotherapy, twin-like charge-switchable nanoparticles (shMFN1-NPs + DOX-NPs, termed as MIX-NPs) were developed to selectively target tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and cancer cells, respectively.

Kynurenic acid (KA) was isolated from horseshoe crab in this study for the first time in the world. A previous study in 2018 reported that intraperitoneal administration of KA prevented high-fat diet- (HFD-) induced body weight gain.

Nanomedicine has provided a promising strategy through engineered nanocarriers that are capable of targeting therapeutic agents specifically to tumor cells. In this research, two aptamer/peptide-modified lipid-based drug delivery systems (A54-PEG-SLN/OXA and A15-PEG-SLN/SAL) were developed as a sequential therapeutic strategy to conquer specific hepatocellular carcinoma.

Methods: RNA-seq technology was used to construct the lncRNA/mRNA expression library of a KSD group (n=10) and a control group (n=10), and then Cuffdiff software was used to obtain the gene lncRNA/mRNA FPKM value as the expression profile of lncRNA/mRNA. The fold changes between the two sets of samples were calculated to obtain differential lncRNA/mRNA expression profiles, and a bioinformatics analysis of differentially expressed genes was performed.
Salmonella, being one of the most widespread foodborne pathogens, is a compulsory test item required by national food safety standard of China and many other countries. More sensitive and specific Salmonella detection method is still needed since traditional methods are time consuming and highly dependent on enormous manpower and material resources. In this research, a bacteria detection method based on CRISPR-Cas13a system (where CRISPR is Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) was proposed.

Peripheral macrophages (PMs) have been verified as a key factor that exert anti-inflammatory effects after SCI, but the mechanism is unidentified. As local macrophages, microglia also exert significant effects after SCI, especially polarization.

Over the past decades, CAMS have been widely investigated as a promising approach to address the challenge of low water solubility of many active pharmaceutical ingredients. Most of the studies on CAMS were performed on a case-by-case basis, and only a few systematic studies are available.

A potential link between heat exposure and mental health outcomes has been recognised in the scientific literature; however, the associations between heat exposure (both high ambient temperatures and heatwaves) and mental health-related mortality and morbidity vary between studies and locations.
Objective: To fill gaps in knowledge, this systematic review aims to summarize the epidemiological evidence and investigate the quantitative effects of high ambient temperatures and heatwaves on mental health-related mortality and morbidity outcomes, while exploring sources of heterogeneity.
Background: Despite being a commonly encountered injury in orthopedic practice, controversy surrounds the methods of optimal internal fixation for femoral neck fractures (FNF) in young patients. The objective of the present study is to compare complication rates and failure mechanisms for surgical fixation of FNF using fully threaded headless cannulated screws (FTHCS) versus partial threaded cannulated screws (PTS) in young adults.
Methods: A total of 75 patients (18-65 years old) with FNF were prospectively treated with close reduction and internal fixation using three parallel FTHCS and compared to a historical control case-matched group (75 patients) with FNF treated by PTS fixation.
We aimed to establish the cross-sectional area (CSA) reference values for peripheral nerves of lower extremities in a healthy Chinese population, and to determine their diagnostic values for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type1A (CMT1A). One hundred eleven healthy subjects, 15-70 years of age, as well as 104 CIDP patients and 26 CMT1A patients were recruited. CSA at predetermined sites of the tibial, fibular, sciatic and sural nerves was measured.
